NEW DELHI: Days before the anniversary of the 26/11 attack, a Pakistan court on Wednesday ordered the release of Mumbai terror attack mastermind and Jamaat-ud-Dawah chief Hafiz Saeed from house arrest.

A judicial review board, comprising judges of the Lahore High Court, rejected a request from the government of Pakistan's Punjab, to extend Saeed's detention by three months.

"The government is ordered to release JuD chief Hafiz Saeed if he is not wanted in any other case," PTI quoted the board as saying.

Saeed is scheduled to be released on Thursday, reported Reuters.

Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam called the move "befooling."

"This is again befooling by Pakistan. Now, America should notice this matter since it designated Hafiz Saeed as global terrorist," Nikam told Times Now.

Last month, the board had allowed a 30-day extension to his detention, which is set to expire in the last week of this month.

On January 31, Saeed and his four aides - Abdullah Ubaid, Malik Zafar Iqbal, Abdul Rehman Abid and Qazi Kashif Hussain - were detained by the Punjab government for 90 days under the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 and the Fourth Schedule of Anti-Terrorism Act 1997.

The last two extensions, however, were made under the 'public safety' law.

Saeed's four aides were set free last month, after the board refused further extension.

The government can detain a person for up to three months under different charges but requires the approval of a judicial review board to extend detention.

The US had announced a $10 million bounty for Saaed for his alleged role in the Mumbai terror attack. The JuD is believed to be the front for the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, which was responsible for the 26/11 attack.

I personally do not adhere to his ideology and beliefs but I didn't understand why he was under house arrest but we need to provide him security. I find it immensely satisfying that it will burn some brown a$$es across the border.

A Judicial Review Board of Pakistan province on Wednesday issued orders to release Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD) headman Hafiz Saeed from house arrest, news agency PTI reported. Saeed, the mastermind behind the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, had been under house arrest since January.

The judicial board rejected Pakistan government’s plea asking to extend the period of confinement by another three months and said, “The government is ordered to release JuD chief Hafiz Saeed if he is not wanted in any other case.”

The board had in October agreed to a month’s extension of Saeed’s house arrest, which is due to expire next week.

Hafiz Saeed along with his four aids – Abdullah Ubaid, Malik Zafar Iqbal, Abdul Rehman Abid and Qazi Kashif Hussain – were taken into custody by the Punjab government on January 31 this year. They were detained for 90 days under the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 and the Fourth Schedule of Anti-Terrorism Act 1997.

While his four aides were set free in the last week of October, Saeed was detained for another month.

The Jamaat-ud-Dawah is believed to be the front organisation for the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) which was responsible for carrying out the 2008 Mumbai attack.

Hafiz Saeed, who carries a $10 million American bounty on his head for his role in terror activities, is set to contest general elections in the country scheduled for September 2018. The JuD had established their political party Milli Muslim League in August and plans to field candidates in every constituency in the country.

Off Course it's justified no Pakistan court has proven him guilty of any crime till this date so why he should be kept in house arrest or prison no need. He is peaceful patriotic Pakistani serving his country can't be punished just because our neighbors get wet dreams after seeing him.

. . . .
Nawaz had put him under house arrest in an attempt to appease Indians. There are no criminal charges against him yet - so no point of keeping him in arrest / house arrest.

If you've got evidence, bring it forward - otherwise zip it and accept it.
What else someone can expect from him (Nawaz). He is a traitor, who loves india more then Pakistan.
Anyways, good for Hafiz Saeed.
