Not really.
The viper is the unofficial name given by USAF pilots when they first received the aircraft due to way it looked like a snake and also after the space fighter in the TV show battlestar gallactica.

The official name has and will be Fighting Falcon; with the exception of the block 60 which are called desert falcons.

The thing is, that even though these jets are produced in 1970s, they are upgraded from time to time. This jet was probably a 3rd generation fighter back then, now its newer variants are considered 4++ generation, and even the upgraded ones are considered 4th generation.

The age is not a factor if the jet can be upgraded. In same way, Indian mig-21 is upgraded to the extent it is now a 3rd generation jet close to being a 4th generation jet.

It's not that Russian jets are bad, they are very good. Nothing beats Western tech.

Per say, if KSA might be footing the bill for SU-35s, why not go for EFT as common platform with them. Spares and weapons will be easy to get hold off when time arises. All thing Ruskie aside, one need to remember how USSR ( old bear ) tried to dictate terms for peace with India after providing handful of tanks, T-54/55 or something similar.

My guess would be it would help hedge bets for them - what if the West puts sanctions at some point? Also, the range that the Su-35 has, would allow the PAF to literally fly to the rescue.
