PAF can counter India’s new war doctrine, says air chief

JACOBABAD: Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman has said that the Pakistan Air Force can effectively counter India’s new war doctrine.

Talking to the media here at the Shahbaz Air Base, the air chief said PAF has modified its plan within the existing infrastructure in view of the new war doctrine of India. The Indian Air Force, he said, has been given a very crucial and critical role in India’s ‘Cold Start’ doctrine.

Suleman told the media that the Shahbaz Air Base was totally in the control of the Pakistan Air Force and existing hardware procured and being acquired by the PAF was sufficient to fulfill its requirements. “We are in the process of consolidating the hardware procured so far,” the air chief said.

To a question about the capability of US F-16 Block 52 aircraft, he rejected the impression that the aircraft could not target or intercept US aircraft if they violated the country’s airspace. “There is nothing which can prevent us from targeting or intercepting US fighter planes,” he said. Suleman maintained that PAF could intercept or target US planes, if required, but at the same time he said they did not wish for such a situation to arise.

The question is(apart from this being a public morale statement).. what is "countering the IAF" in the PAF's view?
Does it mean holding air superiority over all airspace and destroying the IAF.
Or perhaps it simply is keeping the PAF alive, providing support to the PA long enough for a diplomatic(or nuclear) solution to present itself.

There are three categories most mentioned and taught at Air war college.

Defensive-defensive operations,
Offensive-Defensive operations,
and offensive-offensive operations,
These are tactical stances that depend on the situation in war.

What I mentioned are strategic objectives.

I think Oscar is right .. PAF has not capability to have air superiority over India aero space.
However by help ground support like surface to air missile ,ground radar , PAF can hold Indian aggression for long time. And this way PAF can counter Indian Cold start for fast results.

Even though its happens around the world , I can assure you that it doesn't happen in Pakistan ... If the PAF wants money , they will get it ... They dont need to start a propaganda campaign to do this ...

The pain of PAF is,

To intercept IAF attack teams on bombing mission on their assets, like air fields.

Counter IAF close air support teams to help PA

Close air support for PA and fight if attacked by IAF again.

Fight with IN jets on naval front apart from anti ship missions.

All the above will happen mostly in Pak air space, then they can think about entering Indian air space for a strategic strike missions.

while the PAF chief has made this statement, he does not elaborate the blueprint at to how he will achieve this . the fact is even 10 yrs down they line PAF will not have fighters in substantial numbers to counter the IAF. but may be they have something they are not sharing with us.

Pakistan : PAK Cab counter India`s Cold Start doctrine

Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman has said that the PAF has already updated its war fighting strategy to effectively counter Indian Cold War doctrine.

Indian Air Force has been given a central role in the new Indian ‘Cold Start’ doctrine which calls for preemptive strikes against Pakistan in short time period to avoid diplomatic pressure from the world.

Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman said that PAF is control of the Shahbaz Air Base and Pakistan Air Force has purchased sufficient weapon systems to fulfill its requirements. He said, “We are in the process of consolidating the hardware procured so far.” .

Air Chief also rejected the reports in media which questioned the capability of F-16 Block 52M fighter jets to intercept American drones and jets if they violated the country’s airspace.
