PAF Bases Discussions

Unless an MOB is built part of new gawadar air port looks like paf pasni will be upgraded to mob to cover gawadar and Omara on he western coast as Quetta is too far north and turbat is just pn base ??

5-10 years down the road ??
Gawadar it self will be upvraded to mob where as pasni will be a full fledged AD base .

Or the current gawadar airport taken over by paf after new airport is inaugurated

Pasni already has many of the paf infrastructure plus its equi distance from omara pn facilities and gawadar

Paf has some pens in gawadar also plus more can be build .
But paf will be having big rep in gawadar and its in paf's plan lets see what happens .
But pasni will be also upgraded to mob as an AD base on the likes of malir sakeser and lahore.

Major operational Base or MOB means flying wings deployed with flying operations during peace and war time I think so Malir etc are not MOB

Current gawadar has no paf facilities check google only pasni which is Paf FOB and harden shelters/hangers for about sqn

Who knows I am just guessing

Kalabagh lowetopa are Mobs
Mob's doesn't mean that they should be flying base.
Kallar kahar also got mob status last year.

I asked this gawadr question from a senior guy he said paf has a flight in gawader to maintain hangers etc I was surprised.

Pasni is ideally located halfway between Gawadar and Ormara.

Paf has some pens in gawadar also plus more can be build .

Only two pens in Gawader

Only two pens in Gawader

Yup I missed it initially

Anyway perhaps 5-10 years down the road something will be in place or may be already in plans as it would require years of construction

Gawadar current airport and new airport are two separate sites so older airport can be taken over by paf for FOB for MoB may need additional area/land acquisition compared to pasni which has more than runway

The current application for drones is in the north of Pakistan along the Afghan Border. I don's see much use around Gawader. However, these drones are ideal to be used in creek areas for surveillance and patrolling the sea boundary between India and Pakistan.

Btw Pasni has eight fighter pens and four more are under construction. However, if you count the two pens located mid-way north of the runway on the diamond shaped apron, than the total will be 10 operational, and four under construction.

I remember how jacobabad was selected instead of sukkur to be MOB for blk 52 due to the fact that there were more pens in jacobabad then sukkur . Building pens is a difficult and costly task however I think pasni is ideally situated .

Jacobabad was also beefed up/ upgraded by US when they operated from it so obviously it made sense to convert it to mob vs say other options

Do u see any drone base in future around gawader on the likes if murid?
The main MALE drone home bases are Murid, Sukker and Bahawalpur. However, they can be deployed at any other locations.

Next big base in South will be Turbat. Navy is already operational. The Air Force could also move in. Pasni is too vulnerable.

Bhawalpur or rajanpur?

PAF's legacy forward air bases, and many of its air bases in fact, are a little too close to the Indian border, given modern standoff (BVR) strategies, and the reach enemy standoff munitions.

PAF really needs to reorganize its basing strategy. I see a long ridge, going south to north, from the coast, in the middle of Pakistan. On the one side are the flatlands of Sindh, and the other side highlands of Balochistan. More airbases on these highlands, just off the ridge could be a good solution perhaps. Just my 0.02.
