MIANWALI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday has named Pakistan Air Force (PAF) base in Mianwali after name of hero of 1965 war Mohammad Mehmood Alam (MM Alam)

Prime Minister reached Mianwali today in a ceremony for naming of the airbase.

He was accompanied with the chief of Air Staff (CAS) Tahir Rafique Butt, Defence Minister Khwaja Asif, Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid and other high officials of the government and the PAF.

MM Alam is considered as a national hero for Pakistan, for his remarkable show of brilliance in the war of 1965 when he was posted at Sargodha.

During 1965 war he was involved in various dogfights while flying his F-86 Sabre fighter. He downed nine Indian fighters in air-to-air combat, including six Hawker Hunter fighters.

In one mission on 7 September 1965, Alam downed five Indian aircraft in less than a minute, the first four within 30 seconds, establishing a world record, with total of 9 aircraft downed in the war.

After a protracted illness, M. M. Alam died in Karachi on 18 March 2013.

Nonetheless, his skills were impressive and is truly remarkable for the jet age.

:o:o_O:o:

How is that possible ? 1 to 2 Minute would be much credible isn't it ?

But 4 Air combat in less than 30 secs does not add up.
