Actually this article is pathetic and not doing justice at all. The collaboration for the next gen A/C is being done on much better conditions and a super-style that every subsystem from avionics to airframe, from landing gear to drag-chutes...will be designed and made in Pakistan.. that's beyond ToT. It can't get better than this... so JF17 is not the justice to describe it.

In 2010, pretty much when I joined the forum, I started learning that Pakistan will have its twin engine platform post 2018 - and it is 2018 and there is no twin engine on the horizon yet.

Questions

1. Do we need a twin engine platform?
2. Wouldn't it be nice if Pakistan operates an F-16 like platform (Jf-17), and an F-18 like platform? (Jf-19) ?

This is just loud thinking, rather wishing, but can J-10s be a starting point of this future platform? J-10 is China's own, and has no strings attached, and a twin-engine version of it will create new possibilities for China and global export market. J-10 in the current configuration doesn't add much to our capabilities - but how about twin engine J-10?

Any thoughts?

nearly impossible, cause Pakistan is strong enough to protect itself.

It's more of a case of us being able to inflict enough damage upon the US to make an invasion not worth it. Our ballistic missiles have the capability of hitting any of their bases throughout the Middle East, and since we have about 150 warheads, this gives us the potential to cause a lot of damage. We can also hit their darling Israel, provide nuclear technology to America's enemies (e.g Iran), and if they still decide to invade, tactical nukes can make life hell for their ground forces. I'm sure China would also be thrilled to let us test out some of your latest toys such as the Snowy Owl or anti-air defences.

Though I'm not sure about the authenticity of UrduPoint's article about defense matters. I think it might be loosely based on that article by NYTimes.

According to that article a Special Economic Zone is to be setup where Pakistan will produce subsystems such as "navigation systems, radar systems and onboard weapons." Since Pak's next gen fighter is at least more than a decade away to even take shape, I think this process of Pak domestically producing subsystems like radars might start with JF17 Block III. Pak would probably start manufacturing the subsystems domestically under license and with help of Chinese. This would allow for these industrial capabilities to mature enough for them to play a part in the next gen fighter development.

I'm hoping that in addition to China, Pak will invite Turkey, South Africa, Ukraine, Russia, South Korea, Indonesia, and even European countries to set up shop(as joint ventures) in this SEZ if possible. This would provide a great leap forward for Pak to diversify its defense equipment and in forming a robust domestic defense industry.
