ISLAMABAD: A cargo airplane of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF), laden with medical equipment from China, landed at the Islamabad International Airport early Sunday morning.

Reportedly, the consignment comprises of ventilators, N-95 face masks and protective medical gear for doctors performing field duty.

It has also emerged that the air transport fleet of PAF has been assigned with the responsibility to airlift relief cargo from China.

China is extending full support to Pakistan in its efforts to contain the coronavirus. China’s assistance to Pakistan so far includes 12,000 test kits, 300,000 masks, 10,000 protective suits, and support to build an isolation hospital.

Yesterday, a special Chinese flight carrying an eight-member team of medical experts and relief assistance landed in Islamabad. The team will stay in Pakistan for two weeks, it was reported.

The plane carried over 10,000 test kits, 10,000 N95 masks, 100,000 disposable medical masks, 5,000 medical protective clothes, five ventilators, 11 defibrillator monitors and 62,000 sets of drugs for treating COVID-19. In addition to the Chinese government, the private sector including Alibaba Foundation and Jack Ma Foundation has also donated 50,000 test kits and 500,000 face masks.

Meanwhile, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Dr Zafar Mirza said that out of 1500 total cases in the country, not even a single patient has a travel history of China.

“This is remarkable if you think about it,” he said while briefing the team of Chinese doctors at the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Islamabad. “This could happen only because of the coordination between Pakistan and China’s government and as a result of which it was decided not to let Chinese citizens travel before a 14-day period.”

Stressing that the government’s earlier to not expatriate Pakistani student from Wuhan, Mirza said, “It was a very tough decision but we worked very closely with the Chinese government. We just followed their recommendations and policies.”

“They were very nice; they allowed countries to expatriate even against their recommendation.”

“Today, when the disease is spreading in Pakistan, the students are thanking the government of Pakistan for not bringing them back,” added Mirza. “They are asking us to take care of their families like China took care of them.”

Mirza also noted that “China has written a new chapter in public health by putting close to 60 million people in quarantine”.

“Not just that but also rigorous implementation; the world has learnt from that,” he added.

Pakistan’s coronavirus toll currently stands at 1,526 after the emergence of new cases in Punjab, Islamabad and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).

Ah thanks for correcting that.

Strategic airlift would come in handy in times like these.

China is ramping up supply chain wouldn't be issue now Pak should send Dr and staff along material to both US and UK it would bring a great Goodwill for Pak and people of Pak beacuse spread in Pak is slow and handling is very good I don't see a great risk of spread in Pak also weather getting hott.

This contribution should be compared with Civil Aviation Setup (e.g. CAA efforts). The Civil support wing and disaster relief should have taken the lead but seems non existent
