It never does - after Vietnam the amount that was pumped into dominating the aerial and electronic spectrum dwarfed the entire rest of the world budget by hundreds.

When former Sec Roper revealed last year that US pilots had already flown a 6th gen prototype and broken multiple records in the process, it floored me. I couldn't believe they were that far along in the program.

If classified is the qualification then yes the Chinese probably have a lid on information better due to being a less open nation and less accountable to citizens. In terms of sophistication however it remains to be seen.
