'Over 10 million Karachiites missing in census': MQM-P, PSP reject results

Both parties say province’s population has deliberately been shown less than what it actually is

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) have rejected the results of the census carried out earlier this year, describing them as ‘fake’.

Speaking at the Karachi Press Club on Tuesday, the MQM-P leader Dr Farooq Sattar said injustice with Karachi was tantamount to meting out injustice to the entire country.

He added that the census results were not only alarming for the MQM-P but for every person living in Sindh. “The province’s population has deliberately been shown less than what it actually is,” he claimed.

“The people living in Sindh are being treated as second-class citizens,” the MQM-P leader maintained. “They are being denied their legal and financial rights.”

Reiterating that Mohajirs were being pushed against the wall, Sattar said his party would approach the Supreme Court against the “misrepresented” census results.

PPP rejects census, announces holding of APC

The PSP too rejected the results, describing them as a ‘major administrative negligence’.

“People across Pakistan – from Karachi to Wana – have rejected the results, PSP leader Advocate Anis Khan said at a press conference at the party’s headquarters on Tuesday.

He quoted the World Bank and the World Health Organisation’s estimates which place Karachi’s population at around 23 million against the figure of 14.9 million in the new census.

“Leaving out 10 million people in the census is tantamount to depriving Sindhis, Balochs, Punjabis, Pashtuns, Mohajirs and all people of all other ethnicities living in this city of their rights,” he added.

He said all over the world people moved to urban centers from rural areas but the census results indicate the opposite.

“The population of Karachi [according to the census results] increased only 63 per cent in the previous 19 years while that of Lahore dramatically soared by 116 per cent. This is incomprehensible,” he remarked..
He urged the military to take into consideration the reservations expressed by the people of Karachi, FATA and Balochistan on the census results and also requested political parties to urgently deal with this matter.

On Monday, the Pakistan People’s Party, the ruling party in Sindh, had also rejected the census results. In a policy statement, the Sindh government announced that it would convene an all parties conference on the issue.

Parliamentary Minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, in the statement, said a conspiracy was hatched by the federal government to show that the population of Sindh was less what it really was. “This aims at reducing Sindh’s share in the National Finance Commission as well as national and provincial assembly seats and job quota in federal government services,” he said, adding that the PPP government in Sindh will not accept this conspiracy.

Earlier, nationalist parties in Sindh too had claimed that the province’s population had deliberately been shown less to gain political mileage.

. . . . .
Lol, just bc census results are not according to the fantasies of some idiots, now entire exercise is fake?

The officials have explained the reason for Karachi's "low" numbers. In Lahore, all the rural areas are also included in population count under the "Lahore city".....however, Karachi's adjacent rural districts are not counted under "Karachi city population"....hence you have the disparity in pop growth numbers for Lahore and Karachi. It's very simple to understand but they just don't want to.

If you add all rural districts and small adjacent populations under one big category I.e Karachi---then you'd have a near 20 million population instead of the current 14 million.

. .
oh come on, rejecting the census?
our politicians seriously have nothing better to do, instead of opposing everything.

. .
Official Karachi Population is just 14.9m? :what:

That is the main reason for rejecting the census.

I guess the development fund are apportioned by the population of the city/province/state

Therefore Sindh and Karachiites are complaining

If that is the case why are they claiming that whole of Sindh pop is shown less? Plus wasnt the army doing its own census at the same time.?

The whole of Sindh population is shown less mainly because of Karachi numbers, according to PPP and MQM. Karachi region's population is the main issue here. If it goes up, the entire pop of Sindh will be up altogether.

Detailed break down of population and census will make things clearer.

And Army wasn't doing its own census I'm sure. They were probably just keeping a double record but I'm not sure if they did that with 1-1 ratio. That'll be too expensive to have two censuses at the same time. One by army and one my PBS.

Keep in mind census was done by provincial governments and local workers with army support to verify. Are you telling me Karachi people on purpose didn't count their own city population? If anything there is chances of over counting, not lower. Like some of Sindh districts huge increase in population doesn't make sense. Provided PBS can present proof with Nadra verification.

Another thing that can happen is 1 person is counted in 2 places, for that every form will be verified. So far only 7% of forms has been verified.

Karachi CNIC holders are 7m in city of 25m. That's lower ratio then rural FATA, Balochistan. 25m population would also imply muhajir now make 25% of population in best case scenario, only idiot will believe this is the case. You don't need to be from Karachi to know muhajirs are still dominant politically.

Only province losing out in seats and NFC after this census is punjab. This tell provinces that there is no need for family planning, keep producing as many kids as possible.

I don't know how can so called MQM-Pakistan forget their own crimes after disowning their father. Karachi have not seen much migration, even Sindhis are not migrating there let alone people from other provinces. Target killings , ethnic killings, insurgency, law & order, rangers etc

People have moved out of Karachi and it shows. No one is save in Karachi.

All of Karachi population is 16m if rural areas are also included. Overall Lahore population has grown by 74% and Karachi 63% since 1998. 116% growth for Lahore district isn't true.

One time i mentioned many people immigrated to the rest of Pakistan from Karachi, and most i found in Azad Kashmir immigrated from Karachi who provided the wedding service for us.

That is due to the combination factors of MQM/Afghan-crime-network/Liyari for years.

So i won't be surprised if the consensus is not far off. After the military operation, Karachi might start to pick up and more people will immigrate to Karachi.

There could be many reasons why Karachi's consensus is not far off it.

* Mass deportation of Afghan refugees.
* Immigration to the rest of the Pakistan from Karachi [MQM/Afghan-crime-network/Liyari].

* Many thousands people got killed due to MQM/Afghan-crime-network/Liyari-gangs. Don't forget Pathan vs MQM war which many have been burned or bombed in the buses regularly for years.

* Biggest corruption ever in the history of Pakistan under Zardari [PPP].
* Karachi deteriorated badly from 2007 to 2016 before the military operation.

* Many people from Karachi immigrate to the rest of the world all the times. Mostly are from Karachi in Canada.

On the other hand, Lahore and Azad Kashmir are booming which happens to the in Punjab whereas for Azad Kashmir near Punjab. On the top of it, Gawadar Port will be the largest financial hub in the come to come so that means more people from Karachi will migrate to Gawadar in Balochistan in the nearest future. So a lot of changes are due in regards to consensus of Karachi. In my opinion, the consensus of Karachi is not far off due to the reason as mentioned above.
