RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The outgoing Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor has lauded the role of media, saying that it has played a significant role in Pakistan army’s achievements and always boosted the morale of armed forces.

In his farewell interaction with media representatives – both formally and informally – in Rawalpindi on Thursday, Major General Asif Ghafoor was full of praise for the media as it helped Pakistan army vigorously with its responsible reporting.

The director general ISPR said that in last two decades, Pakistan fought a war against terrorism for its survival, and in which media’s role was all praise worthy.

It’s worth mentioning here that Major General Babar Iftikhar has now been appointed as the new DG ISPR while Major General Asif Ghafoor will now serve as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 40th Infantry Division Okara.

Referring to his tenure as the DG ISPR, Major General Asif Ghafoor said that each and every word of a military spokesman always remains in adherence to a policy. He said that it’s an honour for him if India is pleased over his posting.

“I am grateful to the media for its assistance, as well as to the people particularly the youth on social media,” he said.

Talking about the boasts made by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that India can defeat Pakistan in less than 10 days, Major General Asif Ghafoor said that Pakistan’s armed forces will always surprise you (India). He said that it’s not a matter of 7 or 10 days; rather, it relates to the war’s repercussions.

The DG ISPR said that they had already told India that you would initiate a war but it would be us who would finish it. However, he maintained that Pakistan’s civil and military leadership is desirous of peace in the region. Therefore, he added that the Indian leadership also must be cognizant of the significance of lasting peace in the region.

Furthermore, the DG ISPR urged the Indian leadership to halt its repression in the Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, cautioning that rages in Kashmir may engulf the entire region.

Hailing the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Major General Asif Ghafoor said that the Army Chief took historical initiatives for the regional peace. He said that the COAS has played a key role to ensure religious harmony and bring reforms in religious seminaries.

The outgoing director general ISPR said that under the Bajwa doctrine, national security and regional peace will be ensured at all costs and no compromise will be made on it.

I disagree with the decision that a person who served very well on a position should now be shifted to another. Horses for courses. People are made to do a particular job really really well and outside those jobs they become average or less bright. It is like asking Washim Akram to lead PIA or Green Revolution Campaign because he has proven himself an excellent fast baller in cricket. Na!

Gen. Asif should be kept part of the Information Warefare division within the army. He has done an excellent job and his presence within the department, as an advisor perhaps - will benefit the state.

Hi,

Thank you---. Indeed Pak military has no clue---.

An Intelligence guy---or ISPR should never be in command of armor--artillery---infantry---and vice versa

You think his approach to psyops and info warfare was sophisticated and "excellent"? Wow.

In the more thinking circles of our IC, it is considered crude and simpleton-like. I hope there is more sophistication going forward.

Did you see the cringey film that ISPR produced under his watch? My God --- tasteless.

Under Gen. Asif, our enemies started to describe ISPR more potent than ISI - and it was the first time Pakistan molested India on information warfare. Recall surgical strikes or Indian propagandas towards Paksitan and then go back to those events and find how well ISPR handled and defended Paksitan, so much so that India has lost credibility of its rants and no one gives it a deaf ear anymore. This achievement is not because of the Foreign Office, or Ministry of Information - but ISPR and who was leading ISRP?

On TV drama, youcan disagree with the quality of production but would you describe the initiative as bad? It was the right plan - executed badly. Produce 50 more dramas, some of them will be top-notch, some of them will be worse than this one. Try again, fail again, fail better.
