We have always emphasized Pakistan’s importance in countering terrorism, and it remains our wish to see peace prevail throughout the region, especially Pakistan. It is important to note that certain statements are often taken out of context and then twisted to send out the wrong message.

The U.S. and Pakistan continue to work together to negate the common threat of terrorism. The U.S. acknowledges Pakistan’s efforts in countering terrorism, and we stand with Pakistan in its fight against extremism. The terrorists would also like to see our nations stay apart in hope of gaining advantage. But the U.S. and Pakistan realize the importance of staying unified against those who pose a threat to the safety of our land and people.

PM Sharif was quoted recently:

“The United States is an important partner of Pakistan in all areas especially the economy, defence and counter-terrorism. Pakistan sees its relations with the US as a partnership which is in the interest of the two countries, the region and the world.”

U.S. National Security Adviser Susan Rice tweeted just over a week ago:

“In Islamabad today, discussed how to deepen coop. to tackle shared priorities. Encouraged Pakistan to advance regional peace & stability.”

Furthermore, there have been many reports and speculations about Daesh’s growing influence in the Afghanistan and Pakistan region. An online video was released in January showing former militants of the Tehreek-i-Taliban (TTP) pledging allegiance to Daesh. It goes without saying that the need of the hour is to stand united and combine our strength against our common enemies.

How do you see the growing relationship between the U.S. and Pakistan helping our common objectives in the region?

So anti-Pakistan rhetoric from Afghanistan, despite our efforts to bring both sides to resolving the issue, goes unnoticed along with innumerable LoC violations from across the border.

And then you expect Pakistan to bend over backwards for Uncle Sam?

Perhaps we can start by ending the "Do-More" thinking in US circles and be more realistic wrt the realities on the ground?

@CENTCOM what is this do more mantra tht every US official considers it obligatory to push down at Pakistans throat? What do more? As usual Susan rice was here to repeat the same old do more rhetoric ... An official in her team, while on visit to Pak, even read tht out in a written statement to press here, tht Pakistan must do more against haqqanis...your delegation didnt even have the decency to keep such things private, even if there was any such thing... Pakistan also has its share of apprehensions with the US/ Afghanistan, but our side had the decency, not to wash dirty laundry in public..this is the main problem with American diplomacy and then US wonders why do people in Pakistan misunderstand them?

Now lets come to the main point.. What else can Pakistan do more? And why should Pakistan do more? How about for A change look inwards at your policy follies? Pakistan is doing an extensive Zarb e azb operation in NW and other tribal agencies... Those militants who do not want to get killed , or donot want to get engaged with Pak army militarily in this operation would have already left Pakistan, and taken refuge in Afghanistan.(as u assume tht Haqqanis are supported by Pakistan, why would they risk being in an area, where they are high chances of getting killed?) as a militant..how will a soldier who is involved in some operation in NW, differentiate between a haqqani commander or a TTP, in the heat of battle? Would a haqqani be written on the militants forehead tht a soldier while being engaged in an operation, will be able to differentiate haqqani from the TTP in an instant?. This is just basic common sense..which your officials choose to conveniently keep aside while dealing with Pakistan.. Those militants who remain in active zone will be killed anyways... So, EVEN IF u assume, tht haqqanis are supported by Pak army ( a BIG IF) theres all probabilty tht they are not in Pakistan, but Afghanistan....

Next... On one hand, u expect Pakistan, uses its influence, to bring Afghan taliban to the negotiating table with Afghan govt, and at the same time, you want Pakistan to kill those same haqqanis, who is the second in command to Mullah Akhtar Mansoor? How the hell is Pak going to use our influence to bring them to the table, if it kills their leadership? Common sense, again? Theres a basic contradiction in US own policy... U want negotiation through Pakistan, but also want Pakistan to kill them? Has US taken out time to wonder at their own policy contradiction/ follies instead of conveniently repeating do more mantra and blame game with Pakistan?

Ok.....when will US ever pay attention to Pakistans concerns? What abt Mullah Fazlullah? In all these years of your military intervention, u have known what Mullah fazlullah is doing to Pakistan, through Afghanistan, but never bothered to take action against him, despite having drones and latestmilitary technology and intelligence? Pak has clearly demnded action thousands of times, against Fazlullah by US or Afghanistan , but US despite having all the means available, at its diposal, never bothered to take action against fazlullah? But still expects pakistan to sort everything out for them in Afghanistan..

Everytime..theres a violent attack in Afghan, US, Afghanistan conveniently blame Pakistan for it, to hide their own follies.. Why is Pakistan, in any way responsible for the security of Afghanistan? If Pakistan tries to make peace in Afghanistan by bringing diff parties to negotiating table, take it as a favor..its not our obligation... What is tht Afghan army for? The same afghan army tht u have trained all these yrs, and spent billions of dollars on..and at the end..is shit of an army..wont be able to face even pakistans police....what are they for? If pak is responsible for afghanistans security..then theres another more convenient and cheaper option available.. Scrap afghan army, give even half of their funds to Pakistan and instead deploy pak army in afgh and we will sure do a much better job.. but till then.. NO.. You dont have any moral ground to blame Pakistan for anything tht happens in Afghan, while Pak is clearly cleaning its own house by Zarb e Azb.. But as I said..its the most convenient thing to blame Pakistan...while totally ignoring Pakistans security concerns in Afghanistan

Also, US knows exactly..tht it was RAW and NDS elements in Afghanistan, which sabotabged, peace talks between afghan govt and taliban, arranged by Pakistan, by deliberately lesking the news of mulla omars death just before the second round of talks.. It was the only way forward for credible peace in Afghanistan.. Pakistan had sincerely tried to broker peace in afghanistan through those negotiations.. US knows exactly tht it was india and nds which sabotaged tht effort.. Yet India doesnt get any blame, and pakistan is blamed for not wanting peace, when it was pakistan itself tht had brought afghan taliban to the negotiating table with afghan govt, through its sincere efforts...
