‘Our PM is a beggar’: PTI deletes old tweet as govt approaches IMF

With the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government finally making the “difficult decision” of approaching the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a bailout to address the mounting balance of payments crisis faced by the country, the ruling party has drawn the ire of thousands of social media users.

Amid the criticism that PTI is facing over its “double standards” – censuring previous governments’ practice of seeking loans and resorting to the same – the official Twitter account of the party’s Lahore wing has deleted a tweet that criticised the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government for approaching the IMF.

“Our prime minister begs to IMF like beggars,” the tweet, published by PTI Lahore Official (@PTIOfficialLHR) back in October 2015, read.

Ever since the government announced approaching the monetary fund, netizens had been retweeting the said post until the tweet “disappeared”.

The Twitterati, however, are continuing to remind the government of its earlier statements by flooding the microblogging website with screenshots of the said post. “Is that another U-Turn,” they are questioning.

It is easy to call names and make bombastic declarations while you are in opposition. However, once in the gov’t, one has to deliver on promises; which is easier said and done.

I could not believe my ears when Minister of Information Fawad Chaudhry boasted again and again on TV that they sold 8 buffaloes for 25 lakh rupees. Can you manage $10-billion shortfall thru selling prime Ministers’ house buffaloes & cars? In my humble opinion, PTI has thus far managed to thrive on slogans alone and did not do any homework on how to deal with the ground realities, especially the current account deficit.

Even though I have never been a fan of Imran Khan; fact remains that Pakistanis have voted PTI in power and I must respect my countrymen’s verdict. I am happy to give them sufficient time, say at least 6 months to see how competent Imran Khan really is? I still think that the job is a couple of sizes too big for his boots, nevertheless, for the sake of Pakistan, I wish him success.

Someone has to present the other side of the story after Imranistan have totally ignored this point of story and busy covering this topic under the carpet. If it wasn’t for @Champion_Usmani, then we wouldn’t have known about it. Given the history where Imranistan have been known to extend personal attack on women, we need somebody to keep them on toe. Next thing if PTI govt will go to IMF we voters will not hate them but we will hate PMLN for making my country go to IMF all our life PMLN made us compromise our dignity and even though PMLN left the govt they made sure we Pakistanis could never have our dignity and go to IMF. and the tweet or image you are talking about is part/content of that news, its a news content, now if 'according to you', that content i.e tweet or image of tweet is fake, then i have provided you the link, just report it to Pemra, thats it, job done, to me it is screenshot of some twitter mobile app, but if you think that it is fake, do the right thing.

Regarding you hating the PMLN, and considering me an opposition voice, and yourself, may be a govt. voice, well bro i have no issues with that and i respect your opinion, even in disagreement.

The IMF is a story of our last 70 years history as a nation, not just sharif or any other regime.

The current crisis is basically due to the continuos devaluation of rupee, and investors wariness of rumours of new taxes after possible IMF bailout, Dar controlled the Dollar price for his 4.5 years tenure, afterwards the policy of letting open market decide the dollar is hurting us, and PTI govt. has adopted that policy, so our Debt has increased manyfold, i have discussed this in detail at multiple threads, not want to discuss/repeat again here.

Well according to IK, its a job of Opposition to criticise the govt. (if govt does anything wrong... that is my addition, IK never said and believed that) and govt. must answer. IK himself adopted the politics of agitation/dharnas/destabilisation, whole 5 years of PMLN, and the country was the ultimate victim, so damaging the country.

According to you, i am an opposition voice, so me or other opposition parties/voices are not on the roads, hurting/destabilising country (Like IK & PTI did), and it is our right to criticise the govt. if it does anything wrong, and if you think we are wrong in our criticism or saying/claiming wrong things, then its your right to rebut us. simple.

First of all the delete message is fake because this is not how Twitter give delete error message. It give delete error message only when tweet deleted is in quotes.

Now how can PTI policy take Pakistan to IMF they are only in power for 2 months and in this time none of their economic policy can be implemented. You can say PTI is back tracking from their statement but you cannot say we are going to IMF because of PTI but we are going to IMF because of bad economic policies of PMLN. PMLN has the blame for this. It is PMLN'n bad economic policy which have made this foreign reserve crisis in Pakistan.
