ORBCOMM sends AIS satellite to ISRO for launch

ORBCOMM Inc. (Nasdaq: ORBC), a global satellite data communications company focused on two-way Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications, today announced that LuxSpace Sarl (LuxSpace), an affiliate of OHB System AG, has confirmed that construction and testing of the LuxSpace VesselSat1 AIS satellite has been successfully completed, and the spacecraft has been shipped to the Indian Space Research Organization’s (ISRO) launch pad at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh off the Bay of the Bengal. The target launch date is set for October 12, 2011.

ORBCOMM is exclusively licensed for the AIS data collected by VesselSat1 which will provide additional coverage in the equatorial region, and will supplement ORBCOMM’s constellation of 18 AIS-enabled next generation satellites currently under construction.
