This is for the Indian and Bangladeshi members on this forum-

Starting Dec 1, I will be travelling to India and Bangladesh as part of an official project.

I will be in India for approximately 3 months and will be stationed in New Delhi, with some travel to Mumbai, Kolkatta and Bangalore.

Immediately thereafter i will be going to Bangladesh for about 4 weeks (exact duration undecided as of now) and will be based in Dhakka.

Its been a while since i visited India, so can the Indian members here give some pointers on intersting things to do in one's spare time. I am not too keen on the historical tours since i have done them in my previous visits, am more keen to see the "new India"- so any help on places to go, things to see etc (eg- I love art, theater and tennis). any possibility of visiting a defence establishment? would love to see some Indian aircraft, esp the much talked about SU30 MKI (i know this is asking for too much, but you never know:) )

while in Dhakka, what do the Bangladeshi members recommend- stuff on similar lines as above, though i would not mind a historical tour as well.

Oh, yes - a bit of advice on the day to day security scene as well in both countries please. I have a fair idea about the pros and cons of big indian cities, but things change so just want to be sure.

How about dhaka? how safe is it for a female foreigner to roam about on weekends?

thanks in advance....

If you are in Delhi on 26 Jan, go see the Republic day parade. You might get to see the Sukhois in the flypast, or in the parade....

.
thanks Roach- the Airforce museum sounds like a nice idea.....

Any idea what are the good nightclubs in Delhi? BTW, im not sure yet, but there is a possibility that I may visit hyderabad as well for a couple of days- heard that it is a very beautiful city.

Hi, it's Kolkata not Kolkatta. Do check out Tantra in Park Street if you're night-club goer or Some Place Else if you just want to enjoy live bands with a beer.

Don't forget to visit China Town in Kolkata to witness lil China inside the city! ;)

For night life, You may go to Connaught Place or GIP Mall Noida or The Ambience mall Gurgaon. You will find plenty of clubs there. If you want to know anything specific then let us know?

Well, it depends on what you consider 'good'. I personally hate loud clubs stuffed with people, playing mindless commercial (bollywood+hiphop+trash house).

There are all kinds- the above, then there is F bar, open 24 hrs. The crowd is good and they play good house.

There are also a number of small but exclusive lounges and clubs that host some good DJs playing excellent house. The best thing to do is, join this group on Facebook. They have the best and most exclusive parties: LIMITED RELEASE.

And if you are going to visit Hyderabad, that would be awesome! This is an awesome party city, with lots to see and do. Get in touch whenever you are coming here, I can help you out for sure.

You will enjoy the night life & food in Mumbai. It's safe and easy to get around if you can spare the traffic. Try to add Goa in your schedule if you want to have fun. I also recommend a trip to North East India (Leh, Ladakh, Kulu Manali). There's a retired aircraft carrier in Mumbai, INS Vikrant which has been turned into a Museum. You can go there if you wish. I doubt you will have any luck with MKI, unless you happen to be at the Republic Day Parade.

While in Delhi you must try some great Indian food. Delhi has some terrific eating places - both conventional & unconventional.

Also, while in Delhi ,make allowance for traffic and winter mist.

Northeast India refers to the Seven Sister States (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura) and Sikkim.

My bad.. I meant Leh, Ladakh, Manali, AND N.E India :D

One of my cousins had once been on an adventure trip to some country in Africa (I fail to recollect) ..(This was during the 90's). He met a very old European traveler there, who claimed he has traveled the world extensively several times over. The cousin asked him "If you have one last trip, where will you go?" and he answered "North East India". He said he's been to India 15 times and Africa a little less (second most beautiful country)
