Opening another front against Pakistan - Naval exercises off gujarat

Hi All

this is a speculative response against Pakistan. What if we start large scale naval exercises off the coast of Gujarat. These will be held in Indian coastal Waters and/or international waters. We wont cross into Pakistani Waters. When these exercises are going on there will obviously we firing of weapons and movement of many naval ships

We can "advise" merchant vessels that "Hey we are conducting massive exercises. It is advisable to avoid this area for some time till these exercises are over. so if you have to go to Karachi Port you can wait for some time. We are NOT blocking your progress but you will have to go at your own risk"

If such "exercises" are conducted for say 1 month what will be the effect

If its a de-facto blockade. Pakistan will treat it as such.

You simply can not book international waters for a month with no appropriate reason (say war).

Oh I already said we will NOT cross into Pakistani waters. But geographically speaking if Indian Exercises are held off the coast of gujarat it will become "difficult" for Merchant ships to reach Karachi

You simply can not book international waters for a month with no appropriate reason (say war).

Not International waters just Indian Waters. It is just a coincidence that these waters are in the way of Karachi

And we are not blocking we are just advising the merchant vessels to be careful

who needs any naval sheeps to reach karachi (not that it would be all that difficult). the gujurat exercises are being held under the watchful reach of our long range ASh Missiles after all. Has a potential for becoming a turkey shoot if the exercisers don't behave themselves. Speaking turkey shoot, how appropriate, thanks giving is nearing. :p

Allowing your own waters to be used by foreign country's vessel is an act of reciprocation for the services they allow to you. Can you justify the unease of business you create for them while blocking the trade with Pakistan?

lol that's not how it works, large scale Naval exercises and war games are not held in busy shipping lanes, and all other maritime traffic such as fishing boats etc are not allowed in the cordoned off area where they are held.

In case of war, the IN is capable of imposing a naval blockade of Pakistan, no need for a show of force now.

nobody's blocking anything to and from Pakistani shores. Rest assured. The u.s. navy tried 5 years ago when we blocked there supplies to afghanistan for 8 months. they couldn't do jack crap to open the blockade even though they threatened everything from amphibious assault to an actual bockade. Even moved there fleets into position of blockades but soon had to backout and fast. I have no idea what they saw on there radars where the saber rattling turned into a purrs and meows pratically overnight but if they couldn't do it, rest assured that india can't either. At the end of almost 8 months, they had to apologize and pay the demanded damages.

I am just exploring this as an option to needle Pakistan. As long as we are not entering Pakistani waters we are not breaking rules
