All Middle Eastern countries are suffering from either instabilities, civil wars and have bad relationships with their neighbors.
Oman on the other hand are virtually untouched. They're also never mentioned on the media. They're like the most sane and politically mature country in the Middle East.
I'm happy you brought this up.
Oman is a very beautiful and interesting country. I was there for a couple of weeks a few years ago. Even though most of my stay was in Muscat(the capital) and salalah to a lesser extent.
The country is kind of unique in the region, this I believe is mostly thanks to the strategic mentality of its Sultan(who funny enough was installed by Britain). It's no surprise that Oman is the single country in the region that maintains amicable relations with all of its neighbours, from Iran to Saudi Arabia.
It doesn't attract too much attention to itself, remaining rather neutral and peaceful(which I think is a very smart policy in this troubled region).
. Its not nearly as developed as the UAE or Qatar, but also fairly open to Western cultures(I can attest to this). Not as restrictive as Iran, but traditional. Certainly not as fundamentalist as Saudi Arabia and not as turbulent as Yemen, but cultural understanding and respect are aspects which can be appreciated in the country.
And to make things even better when I visited the country I got my visa on arrival there(I believe, visas are available on arrival to a select westeen and middle eastern countries
) on a rather stress free and very fast procedure.I'm surprised Oman doesn't attract more Tourists than it does today.
Overall, it is one of the best and most modern country I have been to in the region.
