The arrest of Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) agent in Pune, some three days back, has brought into focus a new startling angle about how the Pakistan's intelligence agency is using internet and chatting mode to lure the youth from India to extract information. The new revelation came after Pune police while investigating the links of Vishal Upadhya, a youth originally from Bokaro city of Jharkhand, with ISI.

Pune police Commissioner Jayant Umranikar told the Hindustan Times the modus operandi being used by the ISI is to entice or engage the youth from India who is looking for some companion through internet. "First they lure the person like Vishal Upadhyay through chatting websites. And then they use him as their informer", said Umaranikar.

When asked whether Upadhyay was caught into the trap of ISI through the intelligence agency creating semblance about a young girl getting attracted to him during the chatting, Umaranikar said that "one never know a person on the other side was really a girl or any other person". Police have seized some letters and e-mail copies of his girlfriend 'Fatima', whom Upadhyay was fallen in love after he got acquaint with her through chatting. Umaranikar further said that social networking webportal Orkut.com is also being used by ISI to create propoganda.

According to the friends of Upadhyay, who did not wish to be named, he was seeking to convert into an Islam religion. The police officials confirmed this saying that following the pre-condition put up by his girlfriend to get convert into Islam, Upadhyay went to several Muslim clerics and other persons requesting them to convert him into Islam. However his efforts failed and he could not convirt himself into Islam.

The arrest of Upadhyay has sent jitters into police department. The city police commissioner, after the some sensational revelations about information pertaining to vital establishments and religious places transferred to ISI by Upadhyay, called a high-level meeting of military intelligence officials. "During the meeting, we asked the senior military officials to be extra alert and also monitor their internet connections", said Umaranikar.

Pune has as many as 20 vital defence establishments besides being the headquarter of Indian Army's Sourthern Command. Some of the other establishments includes the two Ordinance factories, various Defence Research organizations and prominent National Defence Academy. The 12 CDs seized from Upadhyay also has mention of some of the defence establishments. It also has information and maps of Pune famous Dagadusheth Temple. It was also revealed that Upadhyay had received Rs 30000.

Senior police officials said that Upadhyay is not cooperating with the investigating officials and he may be subjected to Narco-Analysis test to get out the truth.

~ After reading this I must say I'm quite speechless as to how far they go to accuse ISI for everything, I mean how do they actually know it's ISI, considering past events and they have given any solid proof, could have been CIA, MI. Also, know it's claiming that they tried to convert to Islam. This reminds me of the ISI coffee joke.

MoD make this a sticky so in future we can keep up with what fairy talkes of our Intel agency.

.
Quite entertaining, and carries CIA signatures like shown in hollywood movies.

Hmmm not a bad strategy that ISI should consider if it hasn't already. Indians are suckers for Pakistani girls. That much I've noticed living with them in Dubai. Could be used to our advantage.

.
WOW i think the ISI credit. i dont think this was an ISI thing. this wasnt in the army. what use could he have been.

Im an HUGE fan of ISI as well!

Kidwaibhai, he provided the locations, maps etc of temples and important gathering places, places which can be blown up easily by terrorists to create pressure on India.

our Intel agency.[/COLOR]

Seems to be another case of "religious intolerence", Hindu's are not allowed to conver to any other religion.

ISI would not be that **** to send guys to claric for converting to Islam and secondly a "Chat Kid" would not be a good "source" for ISI either.

The city have quite important defence instalations and undoubtedly ISI would have "insiders" on payroll, why they need to hire an outsider.

It would turn out like fake police encounters in Kashmir by Indian agencies end of the day.

No, muslim too can not convert, but they are not labelled "enemy agent" and killed in faked encounters.

Your clutching at straws if you want us believe that the ISI need the help of a kid to tell them where temples or large gathering places are in india.
Golden temple and Babri masjid which terrorist attacked them?

There I agree with you, As all of them are publicly available or google earth would do just fine, but maybe he gave detailed plans of the structures themselves.

Pakistan, Bangladesh Involved in North East Terrorism

Pakistan's Inter Service Intelligence is working with Bangladesh's intelligence agencies to facilitate cooperation between north-east militant groups like United Liberation Front of Asom and other jihadi outfits in South Asian regions, besides Tamil rebels in Lanka, US intelligence service Start for has said.

In its latest forecast titled 'India: The Islamisation of the Northeast', it observes that there is a growing Islamisation in the region -- spurred by ISI, and instability in neighbouring Bangladesh which is giving foreign powers (China and Pakistan) a gamut of exploitable secessionist movements to use to prevent India from emerging as a major global player.

Stratfor says there exists a strong nexus between ISI and Bangladesh's intelligence agencies. There are growing indications, says the report, that these two agencies are working clandestinely in Bangladesh to bring all the north-east-based insurgent outfits and jihadi elements under one umbrella.

"The ISI has facilitated cooperation between ULFA and other north-eastern militant outfits; with the LTTE in Sri Lanka, Islamist militant groups in Jammu and Kashmir, Islamist groups in Bangladesh and a growing number of Al Qaeda-linked jihadi groups operating in the region," it adds.

"ULFA's growing links with Bangladeshi Islamists and jihadi elements in the area are increasingly coming to light," the report claims. The April 9 attack timed with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Assam marked the group's first-ever suicide bombing, a tactic that was pioneered by the Tigers and has been frequently employed by Islamist militants.

ULFA's adoption of suicide bombing, Stratfor says, looks to be the result of the group's increased Islamisation caused by collusion with Islamist outfits in the region.

The bomber in the April 9 suicide attack was Ainul Ali, a Muslim. Citing Indian security sources, the report says ULFA did not have many Muslim cadres in its fold in the past, but the increasing flow of Bangladeshi refugees across the border has given the group more -- and more capable -- members willing to sacrifice their lives for the group's cause with nudging from the ISI, Pakistan's premier intelligence agency.

Political conditions in Bangladesh, observes the report, appear to be indirectly contributing to the empowerment of Islamists there.

Using the Pakistani military regime as an example, Bangladeshi Army chief Lt Gen Moeen U Ahmed is reasserting the army's role in Bangladeshi politics -- which have long suffered from a bitter political feud between Awami League, led by Sheikh Hasina, and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, led by Begum Khaleda Zia, it said.

With both party leaders driven into exile, a political vacuum has started to take root in the country, and Bangladesh's Islamist parties are anxiously waiting to fill it, the report adds.

As a result, it forecasts, New Delhi is facing a "bleak situation" in which the ISI's manoeuvres and Bangladesh's political troubles are sure to further constrain India's ability to dig itself out of the militant trap Pakistan has set for India with the help of Bangladesh.

It quoted one informed Bangladesh observer as saying there does exist meaningful cooperation between ISI and Bangladesh's intelligence agencies in their combined fight against terrorism, at the nudging of the West, but their joint efforts to trap India may just be a collateral strategic gain.

Alright, guyies another fantasy tale from India about ISI's adventures into far out lands, not only are they just accusing of turning the miltia's into "Islamists", but accuse us of supporting the "LTTE in Sri Lanka", right we give bombs to SL to bomb them and we in turn support the LTTE, lol.

Now they have added another buddy to the list "New Challenger", the Bangladesh Intel Agency. As I have pointed our long before our fan club is growing next might be Buthan Intel Agency.

ULFA fighting in Assam on behalf of ISI, says Army

ULFA is creating terror in Assam on behalf of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intellegence (ISI) agency, a top army official heading anti-insurgency operations in the state said on Friday."The ULFA is fighting the jihadi war on behalf of the ISI and taking help from jihadi elements. No doubt they (ULFA leaders) are in a foreign land and are under the control of the ISI which is calling the shots and asking them to do what the ISI wants," Lt Gen RK Chhabra, who heads both the Unified Command Structure and the army's 4 Corps, told reporters in Guwahati.

The ULFA is outsourcing explosives and IEDs (improvised explosive devises) from the jihadi elements, he said. "At the moment, the jihadis are like backroom boys. They do the gun-running, drug supplying and run fake note rackets," he said.

Asked if the army was targeting such jihadi elements in its anti-militancy operations in Assam, Chhabra said, "We are not gunning for a particular group though ULFA is the largest group here. We take action against jehadis or any anti-national elements."

Security forces operating under the Unified Command Structure had achieved major successes in the recent months, breaking ULFA's backbone by killing a large number of its commanders and busting the banned group's camps in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, he claimed.

Put on the back foot, the ULFA's strike force, the 28 battalion operating in upper Assam, had also been weakened, Chhabra asserted.

The leaders of 28 battalion were under pressure even though new cadres had been recruited to replace those killed during operations and gun battles, he said.
