Such initiatives boost productivity as it makes employees instantly work harder, it added.
Study was led by psychologist Dan Ariely as part of his book, Payoff: The Hidden Logic That Shapes Our Motivations.

‘People in relationships more likely to gain weight than singletons’

Ariely conducted the research at semiconductor factory at Intel in Israel to observe which would motivate workers to get the most work done.

First offer was of a cash bonus worth $30, second would be boss complimenting the workers and third was a voucher for free pizza.

Pizza substantiated to be the most motivating message after just one day with productivity levels increasing by 6.7% ahead of a control group. Compliments proved almost as motivating, increasing productivity by 6.6%.

Ariely noticed productivity levels after a week, spotting compliments marginally more motivating than the free pizza overall.
