* So Obama has asked Congress for sending 'boots on the ground' in Iraq. His proposal includes Special Forces units to be deployed against the so called 'Islamic State'.

* Republicans are in favor of a larger ground forces deployment.

* More than 50% Americans are supporting 'going back' to Iraq according to opinion polls.

* Now let's say, Obama wins congressional support to send more USSOF units...some of them get captured by ISIS and a sad specticle like Muath Al Kesasbeh follows...

* Considering how deeply & quickly media owns American public opinion, the subsequent media shitstorm will almost certainly lead to another full scale invasion of Iraq....(which is precisely what ISIS wants)

opinions?

If they send large numbers of forces they'll have to avoid some groups like kataib hezbollah, hezbollah believes that the US is helping ISIS and is the enemy,

Just for consumption of Iraqi masses. On ground they're armed and supported by US.

If you type 'Kataib Hezbollah' in youtube you will find video's of them fighting Americans back in the day.

I still don't think there's much of an appetite for getting back to Iraq/middle east within the American electorate (any big war will be a tough sell to those people)

you got any polls etc on those numbers, @Horus ?

the NeoConmen republicans will always be up for another war, no surprises there.

I absolutely hate/despise ISIS but if/when? the Americans get in there for a shooting war (the only thing that can dislodge them)

they'll be in for the fight of a lifetime... al-douri and the rest of the ex ba'athist/ISIS belligerents will not be an easy enemy.

That won't happen. American spec ops units act as self contained small units, and they only go for a mission they are prepared for. They are unlikely to find themselves alone in enemy territory like that hapless Jordanian pilot.

A USAF or USN pilot could eject and find himself in the same plight. But do remember that Americans usually never abandon one of their own - their AF pararescue teams will see to that.

No troops will be sent and the ISIS is here to stay as long as the Shia militants are there. If the ISIS gets destroyed, Iran shall have its reach up to the Mediterranean, not to forget Yemen.

Coalition troops airlifting weaponry to ISIS.

ISIS is not going anywhere.

As long as the US doesn't drop its interests in the region and starts focusing on fighting ISIS instead of indirectly supplying them even now, we can expect another tour of the Middle East that messes things up even more. It's pretty obvious that the US doesn't care about anything other than their immediate interests - they're going to continue relentlessly until they destroy Syria ; ultimately the target is Iran, after which Russia's allies in the Middle East would finish and the US can consolidate its rule while isolating Russia from Europe through Ukraine.

It all links back to classic US expansionism and proxy warfare. God help us when they're done with the Middle East and move on to another region - possibly closer to China this time, since it'll eventually become a target. They probably sowed the seeds in Afghanistan during their tours, but I won't get into that since that theory is more on the conspiracy side with less evidence.

But everything else is obvious: US actions created ISIS, US actions will now destroy it, probably taking Syria, Iran and the rest of the region along with it.
