NSG Membership: Pakistan starts efforts to get NSG members support...

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is making all possible efforts to get support of Nuclear Supplier Group member countries as PM Advisor to foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz has established telephonic contacts with ambassadors of Russia, Korea and New Zealand to support Pakistan for membership.

As per details, Pakistan stance has been supported by all three ambassadors as Pakistan has asked to follow indiscriminate way for the membership of NSG for all countries while Pakistan request for inclusion in the group has also been endorsed by ambassadors.

Meanwhile, NSG member countries envoys were briefed by Additional Foreign Secretary Tasneem Aslam. She informed them that Pakistan has moved application for NSG membership on strong basis.

Pakistan technical experience, capabilities and determination to non-proliferation of nuclear arms were obvious, Tasneem Aslam explained adding that any relaxation in terms and conditions for membership would negatively impact on strategic stability of the region.

Pakistan would get it if it agrees to sign CTBT & FMCT.

Pakistan is the only hold out on these agreements.

I don't think Pakistan, at the moment has enough diplomatic goodwill to achieve NSG status. China's possible backing would not be as big as US's backing to India. US can make things happen, China can only play to an extent as NSG's western countries are more aligned to US than anyone else. So its worth a try, but one shouldn't place much hopes as US wouldn't allow Pakistan to enter NSG.

True/ But everything has a price. If the price is right western members would agree.

India has already agreed to sign these. Pakistan is the only country in the world which has not agreed yet.
