National Security Advisors of India and Pakistan Issue Joint Statement in Bangkok

NEW DELHI: In an unusual turn of events, India and Pakistan issued a joint statement today after the National Security Advisors of the two countries met in Bangkok.

The talks were decided when Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in Paris on the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Summit.

"Discussions covered peace and security, terrorism, Jammu and Kashmir, and others including tranquility over the Line of Control," the statement said, adding that the talks were held in a "candid, cordial and constructive atmosphere."

Earlier this year, NSA-level talks between India and Pakistan were called off after the two sides could not agree on the agenda of the meeting.

I liked the concept of secret talks. Indo-Pak relation is such a sensitive issue that too much media hype won't let this NSA levels talk happened. Secret talks like this should happen more often to resolve all outstanding issues.

How come Kashmir discussed; if Nawaz agreed without preconditions? I believe Kashmir was the preamble, Modi agreed with preamble, that's why talk happened

Its a an encouraging sign for both countries. NSA, MEA and such meetings for the sake of development and privacy better to be arranged and done away from media glare.

Today's media thinks and acts itself as an external judiciary and scuttles most of the good initiatives.

Even Mr. Vajpayee and Mr. Musharaff reached on certain agreement after secret back door negotiations.

Both nations need to realize, no point in fighting and exchanging blows. We have gr8 future if we accept things as it is and move on by having a peace deal.

India and Pakistan respective governments have not given due to their people even after 70 years. We have been failure in lot of ways compared to world developments.
