A video of an anti-terror drill in Gujarat showing dummy terrorists shouting a pro-Islamic slogan surfaced on Thursday, a day after a massive controversy over an exercise in which men playing the part of terrorists were made to wear skull caps.
The latest video shows a mock operation held recently in the Narmada district. In it, policemen are seen holding two "terrorists", who shout, "Kill us if you want. Islam Zindabad (long live Islam)."
Two videos that emerged on Wednesday of an anti-terror drill in Surat, have triggered widespread condemnation over the assumption that terrorists are Muslims.
The footage showed five policemen capturing and then pinning down three men in white skullcaps before bundling them into jeeps.
Outrage over the video forced Chief Minister Anandiben Patel to apologise and call the drill a mistake.
"It's wrong to link religion with terrorism. The issue has been resolved and the matter should be put to rest now. The mistake has been rectified," the Chief Minister said.
The police have been using these drills to test its anti-terror response and prepare for two high profile events this month in Gujarat, which is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home state. The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas for overseas Indians starts next week and it will be followed by the Vibrant Gujarat Investors' Summit that will feature PM Modi and US Secretary of State John Kerry as speakers.
Describing the drills as "atrocious and highly condemnable," Kamal Farooqui of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board told NDTV, "They are profiling the Muslim community. They should apologise or face action. They should be taken to the court."
