Even as the rest of the world is struggling with the the coronavirus pandemic, which originated in Wuhan city of China's Hubei province, Beijing has been aggressively attempting to alter the status quo in East China Sea, South China Sea and with India in Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh.

New Delhi, Continuing with its expansionist agenda, China has now created a new border dispute with Bhutan, one of India's traditional ally.

At a virtual meeting of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) in the first week of June, Beijing objected to the grant for Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary (SWS) in eastern Bhutan's Trashigang district bordering India and China, claiming that the location was disputed.

Even as the rest of the world is struggling with the the coronavirus pandemic, which originated in Wuhan city of China's Hubei province, Beijing has been aggressively attempting to alter the status quo in East China Sea, South China Sea and with India in Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh.

As per Strat News Global, the GEF Council gathered to decide on funding for various environmental projects across the world, was shocked by China's objection and instantly rubbished it.

The majority of the GEF council members supported Bhutan's view and the draft summary of the chair was approved by the council and despite objection from the Chinese council member, the work programme was adopted.

The council refused to record China's reason for objection, saying that the footnote would only record that China objected to the project. However, the Chinese council member said that he would need time to consult with his higher ups to come to a view on the matter.

The reasons were included in the highlights of the discussion, which is a less formal record, and not in the chair's summary, Strat News reported. The draft summary of the chair mentioned in the footnote that "China abstains and does not join the Council decision on this project."

The Bhutan government has since issued a formal letter to the GEF council, strongly opposing the references questioning the sovereignty of Bhutan and its territory on the Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary in the documents of the council's session. Bhutan has urged the GEF council to purge all references of China's baseless claims from Council's documents.

Bhutan and China have a border dispute since 1984. Talks between Thimphu and Beijing have been limited to three areas of dispute (two in North Bhutan -- Jakarlung and Pasamlung areas -- and one in West Bhutan). Sakteng is not part of any of the three disputed areas.

China has no border issue with Bhutan, but India. The treaty with Bhutan had already been signed decades ago if India did NOT intervened.

Bhutan is scared of India bully, they don't want the fate of Sikkim which was a sovereign state. Bhutan is seeking China help, so is Nepal.

A dismembered India is good for smaller nations in South Asian Sub-Continent.

Precisely, Nepal can be witness for this. They are a small country under the constant bully of India. Ask any Nepalese and they will curse the Indian tyrant behaviour.

Its good for the south Indians especially, you will find south Indians are more tolerable compared to their northern counterparts. This is because they have more education. If look , BJP does not have dominance in the south ..

Lol. China raised an area of wildlife sanctuary it doesn't even have border with. China has expansionist designs based on century old maps. Bhutan, though small will stand firm in face of CCP aggression.

Any Chinese border dispute with Bhutan should be viewed as just an extension of the border dispute with India. Bhutan is just a pawn India is keen on exploiting to counter China on the land dispute. People are usually more sympathetic to Bhutan than to India (which I don't blame them, Bhutan is a beautiful, peaceful country).

Expansionists are those who annex:

. Hyderabad
. Junagadh
. Goa
. Siachen
. So many more

I don't know how can someone be so hypocrite and not feel bad about it. At least indians get 100% marks for shamelessness.

China don't need Bhutan territory. What China needs is, Indian solders out of Bhutan.
In other words, China need a truly independent Bhutan.
Independent Nepal, Sri Lanka and BD are in China's interest.
Stand up, oppressed India neighbors.

It is harder than you think. Bhutan is basically an Indian state minus the formal designation. With all due respect to operational purposes, you might as well include Bhutan as part of India.

India is extremely exploitive of her allies ... more so than any other major country. It wants to use Bhutan to create another front on the Sino-Indian border dispute, even though the Bhutanese people and the government do not want this (putting Bhutan in danger of war). Or look at how India has constantly bullied Nepal by shutting down trade and choking its economy for the past 4 decades. No wonder why India is losing all her allies to China. It will be a matter of time before Bhutan establishes relations with the rest of the world.
