Now, a Facebook 'like' leads to sedition charges in India

These are the kinds of posts that make Indians look uneducated. Who is Varun Gandhi? Haven't you done any research.

Varun Gandhi is the great-grandson of Mr Gandhi. Ironic that he was killed by an RSS guy and his great-grandson is giving a speech that would put his killers to shame.

I suspect all the posts discussing non-related material such as Muhajirs, Pashtuns, Biharis, Hiroshima, Japan, the moon, extra-terrestrials, flying space saucers and everything else will be deleted @Rafael?

And please stay on topic. Can anyone produce for me a sedition case for a person not affiliated with any minority religion? Thank you.

You are a think tank? :hitwall: Varun Gandhi is the grandson of Mr. Gandhi alright but that Mr. Gandhi is Feroze Gandhi, not someone who interests you. He is not related to Mahatma Gandhi but to the Nehru-Gandhi family. Next time, be a little more circumspect when you reply and don't overplay your hand.

He also advises me to 'research' on Veerappan and understand that sandalwood smuggler is infact a TNLA fighter who was fighting for the freedom of Tamil Nadu..

BTW Varun Gandhi is the great grandson of Jawaharlal Nehru....No Gandhi within 100 miles of him.

Why not? India, joining the ranks of some shining democratic regimes, took down ''Innocence of Muslims'' from YouTube within hours of it being uploaded and the appeals are ongoing to fully block and prosecute any 'Islamophobic' content on social media. If a kangaroo court presides over such flimsy issues, then let it be a kangaroo court in equal measure to all flimsy issues. Being an atheist, I see no difference in the pedestals that either nationalism or religion stand on.

Either way, the case won't last a minute in court if the charges were cooked up by the cops.

You ignore for personal reasons an entire line of thought that believes that Gandhi Ji had adopted Feroze Gandhi. It did not say exactly as what son or brother but in either way Gandhi basically helped Nehru save his lineage and create the future of India where he was the topmost politician around.

Now in any case going by this theory Feroze Gandhi is actually a grandfather of Varun. Now if Gandhi adopted Feroz as a son then Karamchand Mohandas Gandhi sahab is his great grand-father (this is what is alluded to in the newspapers too if you look at them), while if you go by the theory that he adopted him as a brother he was his grand-father.

In either case, even if he was not his son by blood it still doesn't change the fact that these people are only in there for politics and slander the real Ghandhi's name. It is... I believe unfortunate that he makes such comments... having these links to Gandhi.

I think you seem to have taken M.K. Gandhi being called the Father of the nation too literally.

I guess none of my smart Indian fellows from the place my forefathers had the wisdom to leave fail to question how Mr Feroze ended up becoming a Gandhi when he was born to Muslims. Feroze Gandhi's well-known Parsi (and often doubted to be Muslim) background regardless of the 2 distinctive theories about Feroze's link to Gandhi.

The issue with you guys is largely you want to shove the history you believe into another persons mouth. You do that with a Tamil Nationalist and you get manhandled. I know my history. I suggest you people do not try to be coy. Unlike someone here I don't pay a few dollars to become an elite member and troll the forum.

By the way if this was to turn out as a serious discussion I do reiterate it should have been in the India section.

As an advocate of secular ideology I do believe an atheist would have the understanding to know that a lot of these issues come with the mixing of religion with nationalism. The 2 are completely separate. By merging them in one we obscure the meaning of true Nationalism and create an explosive mix.

Yup, you surely deserve to be a think tank...no one but a tank could think up so much err...brilliance & put it into a reply. I have read it and re-read it and while it probably makes perfect sense to you, it was complete gibberish to my poor brain which is unfortunately not powered by whatever it is that you are inhaling. I'm simply overwhelmed by such illuminating brilliance that in the light of that, cannot come up with any reply that would address any of your points. Before I'm sucked into your world and its absolute psychedelic environment, I think it's best to move on.

Ali has contended in the petition that his Facebook account doesn't bear the message 'I Love Pakistan', doesn't have any pictures showing disrespect to the national flag, nor has sent any offensive message or pictures showing disrespect to the national flag.

This is when nationalism becomes a bane. That guy Ali contends that the page did not contain picture of a dog clothed in national flag, just to prove that he wouldn't disrespect the national flag. It becomes even more imperative just because he is a Muslim.

But looking at it rationally, in a democratic society, that guy should have all the rights to say 'zindabad' for any country. The national flag, if it is on a dog, what is the big deal? Should it have made a difference had the flag been on a lion, or a mouse, or a fish?

It is less a representative of law and more of the society that thinks of dogs as something repulsive. Heck, if the flag saved the dog from cold and heat, I would say it was well used!

Can the ones who arrested him, honestly say that they never broke the law or did not ever hide their taxes?

They are exactly the same as those Muslims in Pakistan who cry for the head of minorities who are accused of desecrating the Koran, but at the same time turn a blind eye to the tons of Koran papers clogging the gutters of Lahore.

it doesn't matter,we dont consider mr.feroze as a gandhi, regardless of who lap he played in.

I believe I said that I saw no difference between the two; which wasn't an attempt to either merge or discuss the cocktail of religious nationalism. The same stern measure introduced to counter 'Islamophobia' on the interwebs should translate into a no-nonsense policy towards national symbols(like the Indian flag) in an egalitarian government.

P.S# Thank the post at your own risk. I have enough lawsuits to deal with as it is!!! :P

Why sir, why so hyper, did you personally file the adoption papers of Feroze Gandhi?

Feroze Gandhi's father was a Gandhi, brother was a Gandhi, grandfather was a Gandhi... do you think Mahatma Gandhi adopted all of them? lol

May be you should go and ask his nephew Rustom Gandhi if he too was adopted by Mahatma Gandhi.

'Gandhi' surname does not belong to just one family in India. I have known Parsis, Muslims, Hindus, and even Sikhs with the surname Gandhi.
