What's new

Novator K-100 (AWACS killer)

.
It says that the missile can be launched from 300-400 km away.
What is the range of AWACS radar? about 400 km I guess.

Can any one tell me the probability of this missile hitting its target(AWACS)?

4000km/h speed, 12g manouvering, thrust vectoring, advanced warheds, anti-jammer, autopilot. It has good probability to hit the target.

development stalled in the mid-1990s for lack of funds.[4] It appears to have restarted in 2004 after a deal with India

Seems to be the PAKFA story once again. The Ruskies have good stuff shelved for lack of funds until India comes along with $$$ to revive it and buy the tech.

The Indians are using their newfound wealth to transplant Soviet military knowhow to India. Smart move!

yup! Pretty smart move. There AWACS killers will prove very handy in future as AWACS are becoming popular in modern world. And destruction of AWACS will also lead to mass loss to opposition.

Whats the NEWS on PAF acquiring the FT-2000? Or is that just another of Internets myths?

.
Doubt that it will work at such long ranges considering the powerful jamming suite of AWACS.Just imagine the power of that aesa radar on awac..should be able to disable the missile however if some jet manage to sneak near the awac and fire 4-5 R-77 at close distance or archer then they might have a chance.;

.
Also soviets developed really cool techs in cold war era but then their economy failed so to extract those researches this is the right time and right opportunity.

I have a question, Dont u ppl think that BVR threat is 'over rated'???
I remember seeing Dog Fights of History Channel it showed two(or three cant exactly remember) AIM-120s to shoot down a serbian MiG-29
then some times these million dollar missiles can prove to be a dud, recent reports about IAF inventory R-77s is a proof
moreover no pilot will ever fire a missile of million dollars without satisfying himself i mean until & unless pilot gets within good distance of enemy A/Cs e.g. if a BVRAAM has max range of say 90km so dont u think that pilot will like to fire when when enemy is at like 70km to ensure that maximum damage is done(this point might seem stupid though, its just a thought)
BVRAAMs will no doubt will be a factor in deciding air engagements but i still think that it will depend more on Dogfights....

:offtopic:

:There are two such missiles competing to be a basic weapon on the PAK FA fighter: the Izdeliye 172 (K-100) from Novator, and the Izdeliye 810 from Vympel.

We the Pakistanis have a very bad habit of making our self feel secure by giving reasons. BVRAAM's in the near future will be the decisive factor in determining the fate of aircombat. Gone are the days of Dogfights, though they may occur "Rarely". If what you said was true then PAF must be wrong in pursuing a BVR. If you had your way we would rather get the AIM-9X as compared to the AIM-120D!

The highlighted part was not in my mind at all
:hitwall::hitwall:
I'm just saying that this threat is 'over rated', thats it, i m not saying we must ignore BVR AIM-9X has got its own importance & AIM-120 has its own place, can any one here quote the total BVR kills made till this day & total BVRs fired for these kills, i could not get this data...

The Bars radar on board su-30mki is capable of detection of big airborne platforms with “generous” RCS at ranges of 350 km or more,that would provide the necessary guidance to the ultra-long-range missile !

As you asked if IFF (identification friend or foe) remains a problem because of incorrect and absent returns and "spoofing", friendly AWACS platforms like Phalcon may be deployed for reconfirmation of enemy airborne targets at extended ranges. In the long term, development of Electro-optical seeker technology coupled with on-board threat database will let the KS-172 missiles themselves determine the legitimacy of a target. Hope that answers you !

Whats the need of an IFF? An aircraft passing from India to Pakistan is a Pakistani Target and a one going from Pakistan to Indian is an Indian Target!:azn:

It still makes me wonder what is the importance of BVR for two countries whose FOB's are within the WVR range?

Hez trying to tell us that 'friendly kills' made by MKIs during Red Flag are no longer a problem for IAF :D isnt it Beckham??

May be MiG-21 Bisons can come fire on PAF jets in Pak air space & run away to do damage before real game starts (just a thought, bit stupid as well) :D
& if bisons succeeded in doing even a little damage it will be worth the price of R-77 :lol:
