Not waiting for phone call from Biden, says PM Imran

Nice nicknames, lmao. But I wouldn’t be so confident as you. I’m not sure what the US needs from us if our leverage over the Taliban is not adequate enough to save Ghani. All it will take is their own face-saving, and some convenient opportunity for spite, and that will be us wrapped up for the foreseeable future.

Also, a more credible civilian leadership might have been able to better represent Pakistan’s position as a whole. This last minute consensus building is hasty and inadequate. Alas, at the risk of turning this into the usual bickering fest, I won’t say anything else on that final point. Biden knows us, which is why he doesn’t take IK up.

I agree with you that for now it is better to just wait and watch how events unfold, without saying much. Things will move forward, of that I am quite sure.

I am all for settlement (backdoor or not) with US and in fact I dream that US can be part of CPEC. However, I think the seriousness of the matter requires head of states to talk or to be shown working with each other. Public perception matters here if not, then why to give 180 degree statements for consumption? It won't serve us.

Imran Khan is not in the driver’s seat vis a vis relations with the US. Guess who’s speaking to the US administration directly on our behalf? It’s not IK’s man and our actual Foreign Minister SMQ, it’s Moeed Yusuf instead. Our security establishment are the ones meeting and having phone calls, not IK.

Frankly, Imran’s comments are a side show, he is running his own campaign right now. Hedging his bets and also using what opportunities come up. As for Biden, he’s not indulging us. If Biden is to Reagan, then IK is to Junejo. One of the latter would never be tasked with independently managing relations, or managing a rapprochement with, one of the former.

LOL I can't help with it
When Pakistan says this. It mean Pakistan is showing the peace loving world the lack of US seriousness in peace. You can not understand because you have brain size of chicken

"As far as I know after [August] 31, the Americans are going to stop all sorts of [operations], even air attacks in Afghanistan," he said.

The bold part, the most important piece of information from the story. Should have made the headline tbh.

Pakistan pulling the plug from GLOC and ALOC after 31st August??

Wrong perception you got.

The current lot in Washington wanted to deal with Pakistan through the junior level of their hierarchy, thats why you saw attempts by Blinken and CIA chief to speak to PMIK which were basically given middle finger in return. Eventually, they were dealt with their counterparts within Pakistan own hierarchy. This ofcourse made yanks sulk as they were not used to this kind of "equality" and audacity (knowing how Zaradari and Nawaz were dealt with) , what you are seeing now, the Afghan issue is being dealt by lower levels of officials, with Biden not being able to swallow his misplaced pride and accept American stupidity, and PMIK known for his massive ego, simply letting his "chota pandas" do the job. Remember the climate summit fiasco? Yanks eventually caved in and invited IK but he was insisting on giving speech himself on the subject rather just sit there and listen to rants of usual suspects. Yanks said no to speech, he in return told them to sod off. The climate summit in Glasgow is also now having the same issue where IK might not come, due to ongoing issues between Pakistan and UK.

Clearly the PM has stated his position on it. I hope he sticks to it.

Taliban reaction to recent American air strikes is give away. It seems like they know as well, soon it will be over.
Is that a claim, a hope or mere speculation?

What do you think when a prime minister is saying that American air operations will stop from 31st onwards? You are saying a sitting PM is "hoping", "claiming or "speculating"?

I disagree. I’m sorry but who are we, is IK or anyone else in Pakistan to “give the finger” to Blinken? We are due for another IMF package soon, if you’ll forgive the expression... beggars can’t be finger givers.

It was this perception that also misread the whole Saudi-Pak ties fiasco. There was talk about decoupling, not bowing to pressure, independent foreign policy. In the end it was all just a cover up for diplomatic failures. Who are we to chart independent policy when we were literally being bailed by the billions?

By the way, Moeed Yusuf is not a ‘low level official’. He’s superseding our actual FM right now. Nor are the DG ISI or COAS low level, they are literally the highest level.

And our security establishment is hard at work maintaining relations with the US, and managing Afghanistan. These are all serious people we’re talking about, and none of them have time to indulge IK and the like with their fantasies of decoupling relations, fiery statements and speeches decreeing that we’ve not bowed to pressure etc.

This iteration of "US not making calls" would rest our case that we were serious, while US hadn't iota of care for Afghanistan or for peace. The failure to take a key ally into confidence while withdrawing is epic level incompetency on behalf of US administration.
But will this translate into the media war. When the ball falls into Pakistani media's court? Will we be able to yell on top of our voice to tell the world our story?? Why have we failed to produce quality media like AlJazeera??

I am not sure where are you getting your ideas from, but in case you been living under rock, not only blinken but CIA chief were given "middle fingers" and denied audience with PMIK.

What you are seeing right now, is "relevant people" meeting at the same level from both sides. Moeed was invited by his "peer" in yankiland. Blinken is engaging with SMQ and yes there is anomaly where Pervaiz Khatak might not be the best person to deal with Austin, so Bajwa has to step up. (Not a fault of Khatak though, defence ministry historically has been a post office).

Its just a matter of lower tier of power dealing with each other while top leadership is keeping at arms length. This is what yanks wanted, and that is what they are getting. Its not a big deal though, if things are getting done.

May I remind you, that in last American administration, it was complete 180 degrees, where the "chota pandas" in yankiland were bypassed and it was one to one relationship between PMIK and Trump.

You are trying hard to look for things which aren't there.

It is quite a jump from the announced "cessation of US air operations" to "Pakistan pulling the plug from GLOC and ALOC", and you are the one making it, not PMIK. Is it your hope, claim, or mere speculation?

My statement is based on well established and publish facts, that America was desperate to have bases in Pakistan to conduct air operation over Afghanistan, and it was flatly refused. Which in turn should make you, I hope, understand that the "cessation" is not voluntary rather imposed.

You can of course choose different expression if it helps you come to peace with it, but "pulling the plug" , its seems, is what has happened.

Well, 31st of August is only a short time away. Let's see what happens to the GLsOC and ALsOC then. No rush. :D
