Norwegians decline President Donald Trump's offer to move to US
Norwegians have been quick to decline the offer from Donald Trump to move to the US. The president had said in less-than-polite terms that they would be more welcome than migrants from other American or African states.

Norwegians were firm but polite as they went on social media to point out they preferred to stay in one of the richest countries in the world as calculated by GDP per capita, rather than move to the United States. In 2017, the Nordic country was named the happiest nation on the planet and has a welfare state funded in part by large reserves of oil and natural gas.

"On behalf of Norway: Thanks, but no thanks," Torbjoern Saetre, a Conservative Party politician in a municipality near Oslo tweeted on Friday.

Trump had been quoted as saying during a meeting at the White House earlier in the week, "Why do we want all these people from Africa here? They're s***hole countries ... We should have more people from Norway."

Norwegian broadcaster TV2 went to the streets in Oslo on Friday, asking people if they wanted to move to the US but could not find anyone interested in emigrating. "Absolutely not," one unidentified man said. "If they get a new president," an unnamed woman added.

Christian Christensen, a US citizen living in Sweden, wondered on Twitter why citizens of Norway would emigrate, pointing out the higher occurrences of shootings and poverty as well as the lack of healthcare and a social welfare net.

Of course people from #Norway would love to move to a country where people are far more likely to be shot, live in poverty, get no healthcare because they’re poor, get no paid parental leave or subsidized daycare and see fewer women in political power. #Shithole

Trump denied the language but confirmed the message in an early-Friday tweet: "The language used by me at the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) meeting was tough, but this was not the language used." DACA protects from deportation the nearly 800,000 immigrants brought to the country illegally as children.

However, US Democratic Senator Dick Durbin said on Friday Trump did use "vile, vulgar language, including 's***hole,'" in the meeting with lawmakers on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg had visited the White House and was praised by Trump for running a trade deficit with the United States and for buying US military equipment.

Norwegian premier Erna Solberg

Former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt had earlier tweeted that, judging by Solberg's visit, "keys to success with Trump are personal charm, a solid trade deficit with the US and buying tons of US military hardware."

Norwegians did move in large numbers to the US in the nineteenth century, but the figure was down to 502 in 2016, a decline of 59 from the previous year, according to Statistics Norway. The Norwegian population numbers 5.3 million in total.

Responding to Trump

Trump's derogatory remarks cited by the Washington Post and New York Times were in reference to African countries and Haiti. The Post included El Salvador.

The US ambassador in Botswana was summoned on Friday by the government to hear complaints about Trump's reported remarks: "The Government of Botswana, today summoned the US Ambassador to Botswana to express its displeasure at the alleged utterances made by the President of the US," the country's foreign ministry said in a statement posted on Twitter. It had sought clarification from the US envoy as to whether Botswana was on the list of African nations Trump would include in his slur, which the White House did not deny he made, "given that there are Botswana nationals residing in the US."

"We view the utterances by the current American President as highly irresponsible, reprehensible and racist," the government in Gaborone added.

Similar sentiments were expressed by other African leaders. Jessie Duarte of South Africa's ruling ANC said on Friday: "Ours is not a s***hole country and neither is Haiti or any other country in distress." She added: "We would not deign to make comments as derogatory as that about any country that has any kind of socio-economic or other difficulties."

US envoys summoned

Haiti's ambassador to the US, Paul Altidor, said on Friday the president's reported remarks were particularly unwelcome coming on the eighth anniversary of the earthquake which killed more than 200,000 people on the Caribbean island.

"I spoke with President Jovenel Moise about the issue, and, of course, the president condemns such language and he is shocked," Altidor remarked, adding that the US charge d'affaires in Haiti had been summoned to explain the US president's remarks.

El Salvador's foreign minister said a formal protest had been made over the comments attributed to Trump.

The United Nations' human rights spokesman Rupert Colville told reporters in Geneva that Trump's comments were "shocking and shameful."

US Democratic congressman Luis Gutierrez called Trump "a racist who does not share the values enshrined in our Constitution."

That was a no brainer... Norwegian and Scandinavians as whole won't like to relocate to USA for a plethora of reasons but to put it simply...Scandinavia is far better than USA for Scandinavians. However they like to visit USA as tourists from time to time and may even stay there for upto a few months or study in US universities but ultimately they return. However in late 1800s and 1st half of 20th century a lot of Scandinavians especially Swedes emigrated to USA and quite a few famous names in Hollywood are ethnic Swedes.

For the sake of justice, it should be noted that a high standard of living is not always enough. America can provide much greater opportunities for self-realization than any small rich country. Space, science, big business - a person can have more ambitions than the simple prosperous life of the Northern European burgher.

.
Its offtopic but I want to immigrate to Norway as skilled worker.

I am an Electronics Engineering graduate (4 years University degree) with 2 yrs of working experience. Is it necessary to have a job offer prior to application or can I search for job after I move there?

Also want some tips and tricks from someone who has already got there from Pakistan etc.

because back in the day scandinavia too was a "shithole" except for probably Sweden. They were realatively under-developed but they did get a boost to their status through racial superiority propaganda and later they were lucky to find natural resources in their countries

and i admit yanks are a better bunch to be around with compared to northern europeans who are reserved, rude and boring most of the time. also the climate in southern USA is far superior to the crap we get here.

That's not my real name just nickname for PDF. BTW I'm a secular liberal Mujahid

I have searched on the UDI's website that one has to have a valid job offer from a Norwegian employer to apply for work permit. How and why a Norwegian company will accept someone from Pakistan ? In other immigration schemes like Canada, AUS, NZ etc people can go to that country and then search for job

Depends, are you willing to do "all" jobs? :sarcastic:

As long as Norway doesn't take in refugees and immigrants it will be a rich country.

Or else it will fail.

Not all immigrants are bad, but at least half are bad. Living off the well fare system and not working and youngsters causing problems in the society.

But I'm a hardworking citizen. I just want economic oppurtunities. And yes I can easily learn new work if that is not of my domain

You are engineer right?

That means you are smart, use your brain, you can make money from anywhere in the world.

I was at a coffee shop yesterday here in Turkey and overheard some young turkish men discussing about how they had made $30,000 with bitcoin and how they do quick bitcoin transfers and never really risk the base money.

I have another friend also in Turkey hardly speaks english, yet he makes $20,000 a month.
This friend used to be an engineer but quit his job :)

Use your brain, no matter where you live you won't get rich unless you are smarter than others and can think differently.

Look around you opportunities are everywhere, you've just got to do your research and planning well then work like crazy to achieve some goals you set.

You have many jobless and poor people in those so called "rich countries" as well, it's about you not where you live. Many people remain poor no matter where they live.

Yes you make more money in those countries, but your expenses such as rent will be very high so you will still hardly get by.

The main difference I have observed between rich and poor is that rich people (the majority) tend to have their own business and not work for others.

Also remember time is money, I just got a job offer yesterday at a restaurant where I was getting drunk haha. I said no way.

I'm not going to spend my precious time working for others in some restaurant, life is short, before you know it you get old.

The hottest job right now in Turkey especially in tourist destinations (where I live by the beach haha) seems to be real estate agent. Anyone with no education what so ever can become a real estate agent in Turkey and start making good money selling and renting houses/apartments.

This could be a good start, you could do this in your country just rent some cheap office at a good location. It would take hard work but the discipline from this line of job will come in handy later in life. You'll also be able to save some cash that you can invest in a different business.

Got one friend that has a pizzeria and another that has a coffee shop, both of them expanded to multiple more restaurants within 10 years and are rich now. So this is something you could do when you have money, as long as it's good location and good service/food you will make it easily. One of these friends spends 10 months of the year at Thailand, he has others run the restaurants for him (family).

I should write a book I like writing about the shit :p:

I can't say what work I do, but it's my own business and I am aiming for a monthly profit of over 1 million USD by 2020. Working like crazy, almost going insane haha

But I don't complain, it's better than working 50 years in some shitty job with no time over to spend with family or enjoy life.I hate 9-5 jobs, it's like being a slave.

I see it like a game, it makes making money so much easier and less stressful.
Like those strategy war games you play, just beat the others, be smarter.

Learn more about your line of business than your competitors...

Learn the weaknesses and strength of the competition...

Work harder and smarter do everything much better and you can do it!

Oh yeah and the secret is if you want to become filthy rich is..

THINK BIGGER!

Most people think small, they think they can't do some things because it seems too big or difficult. But reality is you can do ANYTHING, if you can think it then you can do it.

Stop limiting yourself, nothing is too big or impossible.

And a word of warning, don't trust people so much and don't tell much about your business to others. When money is involved it becomes difficult to find honest people. Your competitors will do everything possible to beat you, even if immoral and wrong.

Yes there are honest people in business life but maybe 1 in 100.
People have the tendency to make easy and quick money even if it means doing the wrong things, maybe it's human nature no one wants to work for anything and want everything served for them for free.

Business life is not like school it's dog eat dog, you need to be a real man/woman and have strong self belief to make it to the end of the rainbow.

When you feel down or work isn't going as planned refocus your mind and increase your belief in yourself. You can do this by reading motivational quotes or watching such movies, I like this one based on a true story where the guy slept in a public toilet with his little son :( :

Also be positive, do not curse and be kind/nice but not naive. And don't fall prey to gold digger women as you have more money I fell for it once almost lost everything and became suicidal but didn't dwell on the past and rebuilt everything with focus and hardwork, because the experience and self-belief is always there no gold digger bitch can take that away from me, no way sir.
