North Korea threatens US with nuclear attack | Daily Mail Online

North Korea issues nuclear warning to U.S. - CNN.com

Followed by:

North Korea claims to have successfully tested a hydrogen bomb - USA Today

America is the "world policeman" right? The "sole superpower"? What would your local policeman do, if a local guy threatened to blow up their house (repeatedly), and then tested a bomb in their backyard?

Nothing, apparently?

Is this another famous "red line" drawn by America, like the one in Syria, the South China sea, the Ukraine, etc. which have all been 100% ignored by everyone?

Instead, America likes to ask a developing country (China) to solve their problems for them. Specifically by cutting off the food/water/electricity to North Korea.

Sorry, no. That's basically America asking us to nuke North Korea, since the casualties would be about the same (mass starvation), not to mention sending millions of North Korean refugees over our border. Which is completely unacceptable for us.

You want us to make their government less unstable, guess what happened to Kim Jong-Un's Uncle who was pro-China? That's right, he was fed to the dogs. Sorry, but they do not listen to us, they never have. We have been asking them to reform their country for decades, to come to the six-party talks, to stop destabilizing the peninsula, etc.

Now tell me, what is the point of the USA being the "sole superpower" and the "global policeman" if they can't actually do anything here, and are asking a developing country like China to do it instead?

It's only a matter of time before North Korea develops decent ICBM technology (for example China developed thermonuclear weapons and ICBM's in the 1960's), it's not exactly cutting edge technology. How long will it be until America decides, oh North Korea has been crossing our "red lines" for a decade now, and threatening to nuke us, perhaps it's time to do something?

Whereas Iraq got invaded and they didn't even have WMD. Now there actually is WMD in North Korea, and they are constantly threatening the US with nuclear attack. What is America's response, apart from the usual nothing?

Maybe you can suggest a strategy instead of being a keyboard warrior...

How is asking a question being a keyboard warrior? Maybe you can explain it?

I'm asking, what is America going to do? North Korea threatens to nuke America repeatedly, they are testing hydrogen bombs and ICBM's (which they are going to achieve eventually... it's 1950's tech after all) for that purpose.

North Korea's propaganda pictures show American soldiers sawing through the heads of North Korean civilians, they probably hate America more than anyone in the Middle East.

And they are emboldened because America refuses to do anything.

Americans say they can't do anything because North Korea borders China and Russia (and they don't want a repeat of the Korean War), but that is such a BS excuse. Since they know China and Russia aren't exactly on good terms with NK either, and certainly wouldn't fight a nuclear war on their behalf. It's just a BS excuse.

Why don't you put that "PDF Think Tank Analyst" title of yours to good use and suggest an alternative strategy since you think the current strategy is a failure.

You want me to think up strategies on behalf of America?

Alright, I'll bite.

Instead of constantly drawing red lines and making threats that everyone just ignores, try putting your money where your mouth is.

When you draw a red line (like the famous red line in Syria), you must uphold it. If you fail to uphold it (as with Scarborough shoal, the Ukraine, etc.) then nobody will take it seriously.

America says that North Korean nuclear weapons are unacceptable, then they must be removed. If you can't do it, then don't draw red lines in the first place.

Same with the Scarborough shoal. America should uphold their "mutual defense treaty" with the Philippines, and try to forcibly remove it from Chinese hands. Why make a promise if you have no intention of keeping it?

Donald Trump, for all his craziness, is someone who might understand that. The "global policeman's" red lines are ignored by everyone, time to fix that. Like in Poker, choose a battle you are willing to fight, and then go all the way. If you're not willing to fight a battle, don't boast and draw red lines, just fold and concentrate on the ones you can win.

okay how do you suggest we "remove it"?

hey @Nihonjin1051 you may want to see this thread...its going to be a doozy!

Operationally? The same thing you did in Iraq, except on a country that actually has WMD this time.

So you suggest a massive air bombardment then later a land invasion?

You do realize every man, woman ,and child is going to be fighting to the death with sticks.

Why make a threat, and draw a red line, if you're not going to uphold it? Why even be the global policeman then?

Aren't you the sole superpower, the global policeman, running scared of a few developing and underdeveloped countries?

Why did Iraq deserve to get invaded over fake WMD, while North Korea actually has nukes (soon hydrogen bombs), and constantly threatens to nuke America, gets away with it scot free?

Are you going to keep waiting until they have hundreds of hydrogen bombs and some semi-decent ICBM platforms to carry out their craziness? The longer you wait, the worse it gets.

Next you'll be telling me you can't even retaliate against North Korea, in case some collateral damage falls along the Chinese/Russian borders.

.
This is a serious issue for East Asia, and quite frankly Japan should seriously consider all contingencies here. We must think outside the box.

The traffic in Japanese defense forums right now my friend is questioning the reliability of the US MDT.

Whether Japan should rely on that , or consider other options.

Well we can bomb them to smithereens and hope they don't blow themselves up and take South Korea and Japan with them.

@Nihonjin1051 are you all for that?

Uh, it's no secret that America has special contingency plans to remove WMD from rogue states.

Or are you saying they invaded Iraq knowing that there was no actual WMD to find?

No need for special contingency plans, if there are no WMD to find, right?

Regardless of any of that, those contingency plans do exist (now at least). It's a matter of deciding to activate them or not.

And the longer you wait, the greater the threat to yourself (and your allies, if you care about that).

You said as if starting a war is as easy as making an apple pie.

The problem is that, NOBODY care about North Korea and their nuclear threat. In case you have not notice, US have been threaten by many country, radical group with nuclear attack, range from back when Soviet threaten US with totally thermonuclear solution shall US move over West Germany. To radical group threaten to attack US with dirty bomb or ex-Soviet nuke. Even China threaten nuclear war with the US.

Column: China, Russia threaten US with nuclear war

So, are you suggesting the American invade each and every single country that threaten US with nuclear attack??

Problem is, you can of course threaten an attack, and you can even proceed with it, but the end result is total destruction of the world, and that's a guarantee.

And launching an attack is not something US can do alone, US is mighty with massive military power, but you cannot invade another country with US alone, not ever since WW2. And so your question should be, if US were to attack NK tomorrow because of the Nuclear threat, will China Game?

And finally, Iraq did have WMD, they had Chemical weapon and the American found them in 2008, I know what you are going to say, those are expired nerve agent. Then maybe you should go tour those storage facilities without Hazmat Suit and mask then come back and tell me they were expired?

LOL
