Normal life resumes in Kashmir after three days of protest - The Times of India

SRINAGAR: Life in Kashmir returned to normalcy on Monday after three days of curfew and strikes over the firing incident in Ramban district that left four persons dead.

Shops, business establishments and institutions of higher learning opened after a gap of three days. Public transport also started plying on all routes of the valley this morning, official sources said.

Authorities imposed curfew in all major towns of Kashmir on Friday - a day after four persons were killed in BSF firing at Gool in Ramban district on Jammu-Srinagar national highway.

While the curfew was lifted on Sunday, normal activities remained suspended due to strike called by hardline Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

Nearly 200 persons including dozens of security force personnel were injured in clashes between protesters and law enforcing agencies over the past three days.

The authorities have maintained a strong presence of police and paramilitary forces at vulnerable spots across the Valley to maintain law and order, the sources said.

Ganderbal district town, however, remained closed over protests following an alleged incident of mischief inside a mosque by some unidentified persons.
