Two questions: one, how old does an account need to be to post links?

Second, I made a post and I can see it in the topic when I'm logged in, but when I log out I can't see the post and it doesn't seem like anyone else can see it either. It also does not show up in my activity. What might be the cause?

The second problem is cause by the post getting stuck in moderation. Believe me, I've had that happen a lot too, just ask a mod for help in the Whatever | Page 3573 thread. They are always very timely and helpful. Avoid certain key words too, I can't provide a link to those, but you can ask some of the mods like @waz or @Jango for clarification. The first problem, I believe the answer is 100 posts to reach member status. New members can't post links.

Ah thank you! Hmm I suppose I could send it as a message instead - how do you start a conversation with someone?

Go to the conversations tab in your "profile" (that will be your user name) tab, provide a topic, tag a few people - or only those that are relevant to the conversation. Or, you can click on their avatar or username in a thread such as this, or any other, and that will bring up a window with a few stats such a +/- ratings, posts, profile status, and the options to follow, ignore or start a conversation with that member.

Ah might it be that new users also can't start conversations? I don't have those options :=P

Thanks a ton for the help!

That might be true. Honestly, I didn't every try when I was a new member, other started them with me, so I can't be sure myself. But, even if you can't, just keep posting. Once you hit "member" status or are assigned a title such as my "Professional" - a sign of my status as a member of a military, you can post links and start conversations too.

It's annoying at first, I always just put a disclaimer that I was a new member and couldn't post links when I was a new member, it's even more annoying when there are links in the article, but you have the option of de-hyper-linking them via the tool bar at the top of these word boxes, so that can be avoided too.

Keep your head up, keep posting, 100 isn't too far away.
