Here we go again...

The Sultan declares

"The 78 cemeteries of martyrs we have in 32 countries define the physical borders of our foreign policy. Nobody can imprison Turkey’s vision in 780,000 square kilometers”

Meanwhile, half the Turkish government's cabinet has visited Libya,to sign the hydrocarbon exploration deal...

However, the Tobruk part of the government, the House of Representatives,do not recognize it.

The Libyan foreign minister mentioned that the deal would have to go through the UN first. Cavusoglu didn't like that:

“It does not matter what they think,” said Cavusoglu when asked if other countries might object to the new memorandum of understanding.

“Third countries do not have the right to interfere,” he added.

This "agreement" completely ignores the Greek-Egyptian EEZ and is on the side of the Tobruk government's part of Libya,in Cyrinaica.

Now,if Turkey sends ships to search and drill, the question is what will the answer of the Greek and Egyptian governments be.

If they start drilling there and ignore our protests or the US and European demands that they leave the area, even the LNA's demands...then eventually we will have to reply militarily.

This could spark a new conflict in Southeast Europe and the Mediterranean.

Anyone decide to fight rn will loose massively. A single mistake can destroy his nation either for Egypt Turkey Greece etc.. Every one is going to a hard economical crisis right now. So I hope there will deescalation. Especially for us and for Turkey.

As a great fan of Erdogan, really not happy with this.

Go down this path and it will not end well....

The translation is wrong. He doesn't say "physical borders". He says "natural borders of our foreign policy". And if you read the remaining of the text you would understand that he's referring to the common history and responsibilities towards the people of these countries. No one in the right mind would think he actually envisions the invasions of 32 countries. I don't like the man either. But we should be more careful before we postulate our opinions on these faulty pieces.

Looks like that it will not end up well. The inflation is like officially 83% and unofficial for more than 100%.
Inflation goes up and down, this statement is a fundamental attack on the territorial integrity of every one of Turkeys neighbours.

It's massive.

He wants influence in these countries. He wants to have them as either puppets or at the most, allies. And if he can grab land from as many as he can,he will do it.

Congratulations. You managed to describe every country on Earth.
And if he can grab land from as many as he can,he will do it.
From where? How? And most importantly why?

Yeah well not every country on earth threatens half its neighbors.

From where? How?
Syria,northern Iraq,got involved in Libya,wants Greek islands,intervened in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Why?

To kick out the Kurds in Syria and Iraq and grab more land. Expand. Create a puppet State. Maybe unite with the Turkmens in Iraq in the future.

Libya? For the oil,for bases.

Greece? Cyprus? For the EEZ,the gas,to increase Erdoğan's popularity against any opponent and turn around the economic situation.

In a few words,to start creating a greater Turkey. To revive the Ottoman dream.

We know what will happen. Last time Erdogan got brave, Sisi told him there is a red line in Libya and Erdogan backed down like a little puppy. Erdogan destroyed the economy and trying to flex his military but no one is intimidated lol.

I think Erdogan is smart to start his ambition now. WIth EU focus on Ukraine. Who cares about Greece and Libya? EU has no way to fight 2 way front. I can forsee Turkey gain what they want during this period. Unless Greece are willing to start war, no way it can stop Turkey.

The last thing Europe and NATO want right now is another front, down south.

Apart from that, the European Union wants its own gas sources and for that reason the logical thing is to support Greece and Cyprus.

I think this is a good point. KSA (and rest of the GCC) will likely use Greece as a energy transit to the remaining EU.

This is why the President of the European Council was in KSA lately. The reason why all of those deals (strategic) were signed between KSA and Greece. Olaf Scholz visiting KSA and UAE too.

Remember that Erdogan is seeking financial support from KSA/UAE/GCC so he cannot alienate their projects with Greece and EU by invading/starting a war with Greece/EU/NATO.

Rumors of Turkey seeking a 20 billion USD credit from KSA even!

People need to look at the bigger picture. There is extreme inflation in Turkey. The last thing Erdogan can afford is a war, sanctions and political isolation.

I think that this is just empty political rhetoric aimed at local voters within Turkey for the upcoming 2023 elections where Erdogan is likely to lose.
