Besides anti cow slaughter laws are part of constitution in animal husbandry act and it has its foundation in Gandhian principles and congress states too have anti cow slaughter laws.

48. Organisation of agriculture and animal husbandry The State shall endeavour to organise agriculture and animal husbandry on modern and scientific lines and shall, in particular, take steps for preserving and improving the breeds, and prohibiting the slaughter, of cows and calves and other milch and draught cattle."

All milch and draught cattles are covered ,cows are integral part of farmers life, people treat them like family and they are a source of income,(milk,milk products) and has agricultural uses.

Sheep and chicken doesn't have this place in our society, this was identified by our first govt (non BJP) which introduced such laws.

Arey Bhai, there is whole episode of partition based on religion. The word secularism was not found in our original constitution. The entire constitution was based on Hindu concept of 'one truth, many paths'. So it extended respect to all religions. India was not set out to be secular country in the first place. Although its spirit is mostly secular because of Hinduism.
The word 'secularism' was added to constitution only in 1972 by Indira Gandhi to suit her politics since at the time Jan Sangh was challenging her big time politically. She was worried that Jan Sangh might change constitution to usher in a Hindu Rashtra and she might never get in power again.

Now the constituent assembly which approved our constitution had put in an article saying cow is sacred to this land and hence it is protected. It is Hindus making laws for their homeland. They have quoted Hindu scriptures for each of the articles in our constitution. Today we have muslims demanding cow slaughter as it is their god given right. They are only allowed to call India home with in the ambit of overarching
Hindu culture. Congress has given false hope to Muslims that they have overriding capacity in this country. Modi and BJP has only bringing forward the real history.

Even Christians are allowed to eat Beef but we don't see them crying about the Ban because they understand that they have to live within the wishes and ambit of majority Hindus. But we have Muslims who are only in India because of Hindu largesse hammering day in day out about Beef as if god has created the animal for them to consume.

And finally Muslims demand secularism when in minority but won't extend it when in majority. Such is the hypocrisy of you people. And if you don't think India is secular, no body gives a hoot.

Buffaloes are slaughtered in India, in fact India is the biggest exporter of buffalo beef. I am sure you know buffaloes share the same characteristic of cows.

Secular society doesn't interfere with religion. Eating beef is not in any way an aspect of islam. Ban on beef is the rule of law in this land like ban on wet markets in China. Muslims just has to follow it. They just can't do it because they think it is a Hindu imposition. But tough luck it is and has been there since 1947. This is a directive principle of state policy, in fact in many states all cattle including milk bearing buffalo's are not allowed to be slaughtered.

Besides in our country cows have special social place thus protection within constitution, similarly you can't slaughter and eat horses in USA.

India cannot be secular enough for Muslims. Congress tried to be, now India and GOI doesn't care about it. India was supposed to be homeland for Dharmic cultures. With in Dharmic culture, we try to respect all religions. India will not extend equality to all its religions. No country does in the world.
