‘No load shedding for industry to boost economy’

LAHORE: Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) President Muhammad Adrees said on Saturday that exemption of the industrial sector from load shedding would help accelerate economic activities besides strengthening the national economy.


While talking to APP, he said the entire industry was grateful to the prime minister for acceding to their long-standing demand for completely exempting industry from load shedding which he hoped would play a vital role in rapid industrialisation and acceleration of economic growth in the country.


SAARC Chamber Vice President and United Business Group Chairman Iftikhar Ali Malik said that the exemption to the industrial sector would greatly help in earning foreign exchange by timely exporting Pakistani products to European countries. He said that export order targets would also be met as a result of round-the-clock provision of power to the industry.


Trade Development Authority Pakistan Chief Executive S M Munir said that the prime minister had always given great importance to the business community and all-out efforts were being made by the government to provide business friendly environment to boost economic activities in the country.


FPCCI VP Hameed Akhtar Chadda said that if gas was also provided round-the-clock the industrial production could be doubled in the country which, he added, would help improve socioeconomic condition of the people besides ensuring economic stability.


Punjab SME sector President Rehmatullah Javed said that small scale traders attached with the cottage industry would greatly benefit from the exemption from load shedding as their production would increase manifold. LCCI Executive Member Mian Waqar Ahmad said that epoch-making decision of the prime minister would usher the country in an era of progress, development and prosperity.

govt added around 2000 mw through wind, solar, hydro(300 or so MW) and used oil to increase production of already current install capacity. In short this would have not been possible without fall in oil prices.

2. distribution
the situation at distribution front is gone from bad to worse while situation on production front is hopeful for next 3-4 years due to private investment being allowed in coal sector

Janaab distribution problems are not that easy to solve There is issue of theft and then the infrastructure up gradation is costly as well.

main problem in distribution is theft, and the only real solution is smart meters both at home and grid level.
an estimated 100-200 billion rupees is required for that up gradation , govt cannot spend that much money(its PSDP for power up gradation this year was 7 billion rupees).
now the good news is that asian bank has an offer of 1 billion dolars loan for this project for quite some time that will solve most of the problem, the bad news is that govt has refused the loans on the rounds that its going to privatize distribution companies soon so there is "no need" for any gradation/mart meters

would you like to be ever green country more greener than any country in Europe or would you like to prevent people dying from hunger..the choice is yours..because as of now we use less than 1% in coal lowest in non oil producing countries and our carbon foot print is not in top 100!

kunda system solution is smart meters along with grid meters. kunda system means stealing energy via a power cable with 100 or so meters from main line, you cant put a kunda kms away, so grid meters can easily identify the problem, this along with real time smart eters can solve this problem easily

because power plants use high sulfur content furnace oil which is nearly as polluting as coal. its only easier to setup a power plant using this option so benefit goes to the invester.
the investor gets a 4 year return promise so under these conditions why not invest half a money in oil plants rather than twice in coal plants!. remember nearly all furnace plants are IPPs

Yea I read this stupid problem of govt wanting to privatize "soon" and hence lets dust off our duties even though it is still under us and soon is not happening anytime soon

I personally know places where men invert the meter while going to masjid in the night and putting back right when going for fajjar prayer, or simply putting kundaas in daylight and even police is scared to go and stop 'em.

Then the meter reader was a fool. Bcz converting or tampering connection wire before meter is considered severe crime and is easily noticeable.

And where is the kunda systemand how to fix it?

Removing kunda system need political support and strong police. It is impossible to have kunda when there is no check n balance. When u will fear of raid, u'll automatically revert to correction. Here people get caught and pay bribe come back again and continue. This can be understood by comparing bribe money to bill saving. In one night we can save few hundred rupee and if get caught after months we can pay 500 to police wala and come out. Or call local MQM/PPP/PML/ANP person and u r safe!!
K-Electric in Karachi started good campaigns but they dnt have much LEA support.
