Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal.

ISLAMABAD:

The Foreign Office (FO) on Thursday said there has been no change in Pakistan’s policy on Israel after some in the country suggested establishing diplomatic ties with Tel Aviv in the wake of the muted reaction of Arab Muslim countries to India’s Kashmir move.

“Our policy on Israel is very clear and there is no change in it,” Dr Muhammad Faisal told reporters at the weekly briefing when asked if the government was mulling any change.

Pakistan does not recognise Israel because of the longstanding Palestine dispute. There were, however, in the past efforts made to establish some contact between Pakistan and Israel.

During Musharraf’s regime, then Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri held a meeting with his Israeli counterpart in Turkey. Those efforts, however, could not make headway because of strong public opposition from within the Pakistani public.

The current Kashmir crisis has again triggered a debate in Pakistan on whether the country should revisit its policy towards Israel.

Such suggestions stemmed from the fact that some Arab states have either given a muted response or sided with New Delhi over its decision to revoke the special status of Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK).

The spokesperson said India was now facing a difficult situation after scrapping the special status of disputed territory.

Dr Faisal was of the view that Pakistan was absolutely clear that the Kashmir issue could only be resolved through the implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions.

To a question, he said Pakistan had never shied away from efforts to resolve the issue through bilateral talks with India.

“It was New Delhi which always showed little interest in bilateral engagement,” he added.

To another query, the spokesperson said consultations were under way on whether to approach the International Court of Justice against India’s Kashmir move.

Hahaha, sure. Kab tak tak logon ko pagal banao gai. SA tells its people the same but we know reality.

Arabs have abandoned their religion and their beliefs

They are also weak and hence make peace with a more powerful Israel, simply because they are scared

Pakistan on the other hand can make Israel non-existent in 20 minutes

.
Good. Just cause some Arab puppet leaders make nationalists want to abandon their morales doesnt mean we should. What these people wishing for israeli ties dont realise is ur walking right into their hand. The west installs their puppet arab leaders then when they act like puppets all of u start saying "no ummah" etc. What did u expect from people backed by the west? Whats the point of fighting for Kashmir if ur gonna support israelis.

Pakistans Israel policy isnt at the behest of the arabs, so why would their treachorous nature change that policy

Its funny though; its like they finally realised in Tel aviv how much of an obstacle Pakistan can be to them, and now they are trying their hardest over the last 12 months to sow seeds of doubt in the Palestine cause

They install their own dictators then low morale people fall right into their trap and think that means we need to open ties with them.

It was concluded a long time ago by Pakistan's establishment that even if Pakistan were to completely normalize its relations with Israel, the benefits to Pakistan would be minimal while Pakistan would still be selling its soul. Pakistan's Israeli policy is quite pragmatic--and moral based.

However, a quick scan of the global social media chatter should tell you how much the Israelis and Indians back each other up... who can forget the Turkish Flotilla incident where the PDF Indians came gun blazing to support Israel--just one example.

The status quo will remain so as Israelis does not miss any chance to harm us.... Ref: 27th Feb, 2019 and many before.
