Terror reigns unopposed in Karachi
- Nine killed, one alleged target killer arrested
- Bodies of six men with their throats slit found near shrine with a note reading "Stop visiting shrines. From the Pakistani Taliban"
At least nine people were killed in different incidents of violence in Karachi on Tuesday.
According to the police, bodies of six men with their throats slit were found near the shrine of Ayub Shah Bukhari in Gulshan-e-Maymar area. Three of the victims worked at the shrine while the others were frequent visitors, the police said, adding that a note reading "Stop visiting shrines. From the Pakistani Taliban" was found at the scene along with a bloodstained knife.
Senior police officer Amir Farooqi voiced caution over the note, saying that he would not draw any conclusions until further investigation. He said all the victims had been abducted and tortured before being killed.
The police said that five victims, aged between 20 and 30 years, were identified as Munawwar, Saleem, Javed, Ramzan and Abid, while one victim could not be identified.
The police have cordoned off the area and have detained a few suspects while further investigations are underway to apprehend the responsible.
Separately, two people, including a police officer, were killed in crossfire in Pak Colony and Quaidabad areas while a dead body was found near Malir check post.
Meanwhile, police claimed to have arrested a ‘target killer’ from Karachi's Musharraf Colony. The police alleged that the arrested man, who hailed from a political party, was wanted in the murder of 28 people. Two Kalashnikovs, two hand-grenades and two home-made bombs were also seized from the suspect’s possession.
