Newly-established opposition group says Al Saud must abandon power

A newly established opposition group has declared its existence in Saudi Arabia, calling for a peaceful power transition from the Western-backed Saudi rulers in the Persian Gulf nation.

The Faithful Brothers for the Liberation of Hijaz made the announcement in a statement posted on Arabi Press website on Thursday, Al-Manar Arabic channel reported.

They support the right of the Hijaz people to decide their fate and to be represented in their Islamic country.

The group, which says to have started its covert activity four months ago, looms as another threat to the monarchy in the Arab kingdom, where the popular drive for political reform is gaining momentum.

The group explained they have risen to support the right of the Hijaz people to decide their fate and to be represented in their Islamic country, demanding that the authorities fairly distribute the country’s wealth among people.

It further described the ruling regime of Saudi Arabia as the “head of hypocrisy in our Islamic world,” and stated that the real point of change is when the ruling Al Saud family are ousted from power.

“Since our movement is Islamic and aims to achieve change, the real point of change is through Al Saud’s abandonment of power, handing over the authority to Muslim people, and getting rid of miscreants in Hijaz,” the statement read.

Hijaz is a region in the west of today Saudi Arabia. Its main city is Jeddah, but it is more significant for including the holy Muslim cities of Mecca and Medina.

In 1916, Emir of Mecca Sharif Hussein bin Ali proclaimed himself king of an independent Hijaz following the disintegration of the Ottoman Empire after World War I.

In 1924, however, Bin Ali's authority was usurped by the Al Saud family who ruled the neighboring region of Nejd.

They annexed the territory into what became known as the Kingdom of Hijaz and Nejd and later the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Its up to saudi people to decide about their future ,the fact is as long as USA and it western alliance need this kind of corrupt monarchies to supply their oil, it seems hard to see any change in the near future but as we were witness in Egypt every thing is possible , on the other hand the age of this type of governments which put power in the hands of a family has already gone ...

Saudi Arabia finally managed to get a decent leader (well, compared to the predecessors)-- they are making slow but sure progress on human development and women rights.

In the face of progress--why do men protest ?
