MOSCOW, April 16. /TASS/. The issue of the supply of Russia’s S-300 anti-aircraft defense missile systems to Iran has been settled, Iranian Defense Minister General Hossein Dehghan told journalists on Thursday.

"This issue has been settled, the agreement has been reached and now the delivery time is being discussed," he said.

No, its the Almaz-Antey S-300PMU2 Favorit

Almaz-Antey S-300PMU2 Favorit / SA-20 Gargoyle / СамоходныйЗенитный Ракетный Комплекс С-300ПМУ2 «Фаворит»

Technical Notes

The S-300PMU2 Favorit is a direct evolution of the S-300PMU1, that in turn having evolved from the S-300PM / SA-20A variants, which were a deep redesign of the self-propelled S-300PS / SA-10B.

The system became a platform for a series of technology insertion upgrades, most of which became production features in the subsequent S-400 Triumf, which was initially designated as the S-300PMU3.

But the technological gap between this and S-400 is minimal i think.
The question is how badly the iran version will be aggravated to the domestical russian version.

We know the chinese PMU-2 is 30-40% less effective than russian one.
Iran version will be same, 30-40% less effective.
But as we know Iranian engineers, they own algorytms/subsystems/operational systems/radars/ and and and..... this 30-40% effectivness gap will be reduced to 0!

So even if Iran will get the 30-40% less effective PMU-2, after upgrading it by iranian engineers, it will be same affective as the S-400 chinese will get from russia.

This is just the beginning for the Iranians and Russians. I can already see that Russia will be pitching its fighters too. Iran has a lot of shopping to do. The Russians are rubbing their hands. I don't think the Yanks are going to like this one bit.

dont be hasty, especially not with russians

1)

S-300 is purely defensive weapon, as Tor-m1, whcih Iran also get

2)

Russia had no other choise than fullfilling contract or return money.

As they saw progress in nuclear talks, and especially the progress in Iranians Air defence self sufficiency (B-373 which is equal o S-300) they had to deliver it.

yavar also once said Russia needs something from Iran (geostrategical nature??), that also could maybe lead to contract fullfilling.

3)

Russia dont even deliver MIG-29 parts and you think they will sell Suchoi machines, come on..

Dont be blind, russia is no friend, just money/bussiness/strategic interests.., nothing else...

Russia is in search of new markets for its defence products specially after loosing its big market share in India to western countries.

LMAO I don't know what world you're living in, but much has changed. The Russians will be selling a lot to newer markets since the Western capitals are economically choking Russia (including Germany). The Russians are forced even if they have other preferences. Their biggest buyers are now buying more and more stuff from Western markets. You really think that Russia is just going to sit idle and watch the Western capitals snatch her customers? Russia has a massive defence industry. It has earned billions in the past decades. They are not going to throw away their potential just because you say so. Especially in these times of economical distress and sanctions the Russians are aggressively searching for new customers. It's only logical.

Just wait and see. Russia is going to be selling a lot more to not only Iran, but many more countries in this neighbourhood. That includes high tech offensive weapons. The Russians have made their intentions crystal clear in the past few years.

Really? Why then are Israel and the US making such hue and cry over the sale of S-300 if it's only purely defensive?

Last but not least, no one is a friend in this world. Russia isn't an exception. The West too only has economical and political interests. You don't sell these weapons to others because they are your cousins or nephews...
