China should be careful with comparisons like this. Perhaps their conspiracy is to provoke jealousy and envy from the Western world through comparison. And other white people or extremist anti-china will try to smear and insult Shanghai. A snake never changes its nature.

I m from Beijing, and we all know how Aljazera hates China, ask foreign expats in Beijing , tens of thousands of them here, and see if Beijing's water drinkable or not.

The water is treated with best technology available, the transport facility are being monitored and tested constantly at various points of the water delivery systems.

Been to both cities many times, they are both similar and very different at the same time. Shanghai has far superior infrastructure and is very safe. New York is filthy and its infrastructure is crumbling and it is very unsafe.

However, NYC's institutions are far stronger than Shanghai's because NYC is still at the center of a financial system underpinned by the USD as a reserve currency. So NYC is still a far more important financial center than Shanghai Unless the Digital Yuan can take off and shift Shanghai towards the center, NYC as a financial center is still far more important.

NYC has always been one of my least favorite American cities though.

当日，“小小环境观察员——威立雅绿色行动”2016年度总结大会在北京自来水博物馆举行。中国环境科学学会副秘书长侯雪松、环境保护部宣传教育中心副主任何家振、中国环境科学学会科普部主任陈永梅、北京市自来水集团新闻发言人梁丽、威立雅中国区对外关系经理纪昕、《环境与生活》杂志社执行总编辑梁平、北京水源保护基金会办公室主任缪柳芳和北京西城区奋斗小学的30余名小小环境观察员代表及辅导老师参加了此次活动。

她分享了一些生活中用水的小常识。“自来水在烧开时水面漂浮物（大家俗称的水碱）是水中矿物质遇热后的凝结物，是对人体有益的。不能用水中硬物来判断水质的好坏，这是不科学的。”她建议，市民不要长期饮用纯净水，这种水矿物质被过滤，长时间饮用不利身体健康。还有，一桶水为提纯要浪费70%的水。

她告诫说：“不要让眼泪成为最后一滴水！节约用水从每个人做起。要一水多用，推广节水用具。大家齐心协力让中国天蓝、地绿、水清。

Obviously newer cities like Shanghai will be modern than New York. I've watched NYC in movies in the 90's and when I finally visited it a few years back, it looks almost the same except for cars and people.

New York infrastructure and skyscrapers date back to the late 1800’s to early 1900’s.Besides the whole rationale for mega cities is now being questioned thanks to COVID. The US can easily modernize NYC, it’s not the question of funds nor capability - after all, many of your prestigious structures is designed/ built by American firms.
