Birbhum (West Bengal): Shyamal Goswami, a BJP leader from Birbhum in West Bengal, has made a controversial statement saying that every Hindu woman should have five children.

Goswami said, "Every Hindu woman should have five children, otherwise Hindus will become extinct in this country."

Goswami is sure to face flak not only from the Opposition but also from the BJP leadership. His statement comes close to similar remarks made by BJP MP from Unnao in Uttar Pradesh Sakshi Maharaj who had said all Hindus should have four children.

The BJP on Monday issued notice to Maharaj and has asked him for a reply in 10 days over his 'Hindus should have four kids' remark.

Maharaj on January 7 had appealed to all Hindu women to produce at least four children to protect the religion.

Sakshi emphasised that it is necessary for Hindus to increase their progeny to protect the religion. He made the comments while addressing a gathering on the occasion of Sant Samagam Mahotsava in Meerut.

The remarks evoked sharp criticism and ridicule from opposition which demanded a clarification from the government.

2 or 3 kids is pretty normal, but 5 for every hindu women, that would increase Indian population to well over 2 billion in no time at all.
