New Image Shows How B-52 Will Look After Engine, Radar Replacement

In war we only look at outcomes and not excuses. The B52s certainly did delay defat and helped kill millions of people but did not change the outcome. Don't put spins on losing, be humble and accept defeat as it is as per the US Chief of Staff no matter how bitter it is. No Champion fighter wins every day as one day he meets his match. Yes, the Taliban may be evil, cruel and barbaric beggars but it doesn't change the fact, said that it maybe, that David against the Goliaths won decisively. It's the equivalent of an ant beating an elephant by being a pain in its trunk and the elephant ran away.
So the Soviet Union lost WWII, because they left Germany in the late 20th century…
The US won the Vietnam war, because Vietnam is aligning itself with the US.
The Afghan War was not over when the US left, as was proved by the liquidation of al-Zawahiri under the noses of the Taliban, so You cannot declare a winner.

Washington (AFP) –

The top US general conceded in a stark admission on Wednesday that the United States "lost" the 20-year war in Afghanistan.
"It is clear, it is obvious to all of us, that the war in Afghanistan did not end on the terms we wanted, with the Taliban in power in Kabul," General Mark Milley, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, told the House Armed Services Committee.
"The war was a strategic failure," Milley told a committee hearing about the US troop pullout from Afghanistan and the chaotic evacuation from the capital Kabul."

Does defeated mean you lost?

To defeat someone is to beat them in a competition or contest. As a noun, a defeat is a loss (as in That was the team's first defeat of the season) and defeat is the state of having lost (as in the agony of defeat).

How often again, with hands tied behind your back, you can't change the ruling ideology of a country.
If you toast, every single week, 100k or more bc you CAN (and if ordinary Murricans who are using the equipment were bad as they are made in this forum more often than not), than no Iraqi in Iraq or Afghan in Afghanistan would be left.
It's like a fart for Americans to crush 95% of the worlds countries conventional when all rules are off.
Seems like Russia didn't complete the deNazification of Germany and has still some work to do.

The US can kill Talibans like maggots, if they so choose and there is nothing the Taliban can do to stop them. That they will be replaced, does not help those killed.

The best way to help the people is to resign and let people with actual competence run the show.

It is an example that shows the claim that the US leaving Afghanistan is the worst defeat and humiliation in the history of warfare is a load of rubbish.

Hi Cardinal,

Regardless---the Gripen NG will not sell---.

That is the logical conclusion of your line of reasoning.
The US does things because it chooses to do things, not because it is forced to do things.

It is simply a case of you can lead a donkey to water, but you cannot force it to drink. Eventually You stop trying.

The primary goal and reason for the war was the Al Qaeda camps supported by the Taliban regime.
The success of the war is measured in the number of Al Qaeda attacks on US territory. The rest are nice to have. The Taliban in power, but not supporting Al Qaeda may be considered good enough by politicians, even if the Army generals disagree.

You have the disease of selective reading , which part of defeat can't you understand? NATO, US army and the US Gov and the select committee that reviewed the Afghan mission all accepted that they were defeated, lost, vanquished , trounced, overcome, scarpered, retreated etc , whatever you want to call it, but you seem to be drugged into believing otherwise. Oh yes , you were probably a member of the Swedish ISAF who had a good beating by the Talibs and ran out first. Humiliated you can't accept the defeat, it is understandable. Normal soldiers get drunk in their sorrows but you seem to be drunk on denial.

It matter emotionally. These people simply cannot stand the idea that the US military is that powerful. They are emotionally invested into minimizing the US military thru any mean, no matter how intellectually dishonest.

quite a few of those types here.

Exactly the sort of stuff Hitler's army said. seems like the DeNazification of Germany isn't complete.

Radical circumstances need radical solutions.
So when you wanna really DESTROY something like the Taliban, it's necessary.
For me, the Taliban shall live in their caves and live their ideology, Afghans who don't wanna live the way of Taliban are unfortunates, but Afghans were to weak or not willing enough to change that fact. Americans gave them every chance, like Germans, Japanese, South Koreans etc. (all high living standard countries).

4 killed in 20 years, that is a ”beating” that Talibans will brag and tell their grandkids about.
Your interpretation of events is not reflecting reality.
Then you are jumping up and down in frustration, that it is not accepted.

The Soviet Union voluntarily left Germany at the end of the Cold War after negotiations. They could have remained there indefinitely, except they could not afford it.
The US voluntarily left Afghanistan. They could have remained there, except they elected a moron who was trying to win the Nobel Peace prize.
If the US lost the war in Afghanistan, the Soviets lost WWII.

Having the incompetetent Talibans as rulers makes Afghanistan the real losers in this war.

If you Germans feel so compassionate about the Afghans living in Caves then let them into Germany. I am sure they will enjoy the drunkard gay and violent/rapist culture of the Germans. Get your miserable people to smile and laugh then ask other people to come over.

Your comment speaks of your simplistic take of the world order and mostly of youthful inexperience in gauging it.

In time - you will gain more insight.

You mean like Gulf War 1? The Taliban knows how to counter the B-52s by blending in with civilians and dispersing their forces. Against a conventional force like Russia, the B-52s will destroy them. And it won't be like carpet bombing. A B-52 can launch long range cruise missiles or drop long range bombs with pin point accuracy. I can see it drop 80 bombs and hit 80 targets with almost 100% accuracy beyond most SAMS.

Sure, what you are saying that the best, if not only, way to militarily defeat the US is to get rid of the army, air force, and navy, then become guerrilla fighters like the Taliban and wait until the US come to home soil. I think China abandoned that doctrine as after Desert Storm, they recognized it as a failure. But hey...You are free to try to convince militaries to try that. :enjoy:

Seems like you are getting desperate for face saving, are you a Trump supporter by the way?

As if the US really cared about bombing civilians to the extent "they don't count dead people" and collateral damage is unfortunate. Here is one of the B52s whose bombing of Afghanistan didn't go well:-

Here is a successful (or if you want to look at it from another view point) or an unsuccessful run
as it didn't change the outcome:-

The US seems to run to bomb another day and given the VA a new meaning- Vietnam-Afghanistan veteran. Bombing the world with peace would be a better option and would leave a better outcome.
