Actually there is no cause-effect relationship between markets closing early and less children being born. There might be a correlation because markets close early in developed countries where shop owners do not need to slog like donkeys all day, and in developed countries children born are also less.

One can however hypothesise that people heading home early and less tired may lead to more s** and therefore more babies. While the journo's question might be clickbaitish, the response was baseless.

Hypothesis is, the sleep early rise early. When you have to wake up early than you are bound to sleep early as well hence lesser available time for private maneuvers in the bed :p. Early rise means to utilize more sunlight in the day rather than using artificial lights (tube/led lights, bulbs, air conditioners , heaters etc) hence saving the need of producing more power.
