ISLAMABAD: The federal government has prepared a new energy policy, which aims at increasing power generation up to 26,800 megawatts and decreasing average power generation cost per unit from Rs14.67 to Rs10.00 per unit in three years, Geo News reported.

Sources add, that a final presentation on energy policy will be presented to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on June 27th and in the Council of Common Interest (CCI) meeting on July 29 the provinces will be taken into confidence, following this the prime minister will announce the new energy policy.

Under the new energy policy power production from the existing 12,200 MW will be boosted up to 26,800 MW, while the power production cost will be reduced by 30 percent on average and efforts will be made to zero the load shedding.

The four key-points of energy policy include: Bridging the difference between the demand and supply of energy, ensuring cheap electricity to the customers, minimising power thefts and making the energy sector attractive for investments.

How will this increased generation be funded at a 30% lower cost per unit? More details please.

Details will be released in a month. But I think coal, bagass, biogass, wind and solar will be used plus electricity bills by the govt would be paid on time and theft will be controlled

... and there will be rainbows in the skies every day!

It takes about a billion dollars of investment to create 1000MW of power on a sustainable basis, roughly speaking. Where is this $13 billion-odd going to come from given our finances?

Who you calling burger?

Regarding the subject it sounds impossible to implement.

. . .
"Barakk maaraan Tay bhonchaal aa julay"

extra 13 gigawatts in 3 years?
But how?

Sir here is how:

. . .
i think the detail are widely availble about the how but summary is as follows
1. current installed capacity is 23,00 MW (generation capacity near 20,000 up from 19000mw install capacity in 2002)

2. govt plan to convert all desco gen plants to coal(imported) at cost of 240 billion ruppes whch would be completely financed by asian bank. this will also include upgradation worth 600 MW (however by converting to coal plants lose some of its generation capacity anyway due to inefficient fuel). the generation cost will 10 rs (due to debt repayment for 1st 5 years)
3. additional two 600 MW coal fired financed by asian bank
4. 2000-3000MW in wind nearing financial closure private sector
5. 400 mw in small hydro near completion
6. 900mw in two half completed power projects to be accelerated (nandipur etc)
7.600 in two nuclear power plants by 2017 , 70% work done
8. 960 mw in NJ hydro, 50% completed expected by mid 2016
9.4000 coal in private sector by four different companies(engro,KESC etc) in next 4-5 years
10. 1400 MW from tarbela extention by 2019-18 completely financed by world bank(100%)

if the PPPP era projects are completed(i mean those that have gotten finicial closure) generation capacity can easily hit 35k by 2018

real problem is tarrrif not capacity wind power(13.5rs for 1st 4 years only) ,coal (7-10rs for 1st few years), hydro (from tarbela extention, NJ, small plants) nuclear from (chasma 2,3) will bring the tarrif from 12.5+line losses=14.5 to around 10. the people are been charged @9.3 rs+1.5 recent hike=10.8 rs

in long term Basha dam finances has been arranged with govt share of 20% (2-3billion dollars over 8 years). Dasu in final stage,
bunji in negotations, private sector(work on 2k already started) 6-8k already finalised and issue is stuck in tarrif stage

so pakistan is well on track for 36000Mw cpapcity by 2018..while Wpada 2025 vision quotes for 30,000MW new power through hydro..(4,500 basha,7100bunji,4400 dasu,2800 pathan, 6000 private sector,6000 kohla, tarbela,NJ,monda etc)

Now everything has been okayed on paper, finances have been arranged, if PML N fails now this would mean even poorer governance than PPPP. good start so far 256 billion ruppes for power in this budget..

.
To all my PTI burger trolls, remember how your leader said he will change the fate of pakistan within 90 days. Well, we arent asking for much, we only ask him to change the fate of kpk in 90 days. Unfortunately, he has failed so far while his chief minister is flying around in the govt helicopter. Talk about priorities.

.
If economy picks up then the demand will increase to over 30000 MW. Pakistan needs immediate clearance to all the major projects .
