New Capital city for India ?

British selected New Delhi as a Capital for India because it was in Center of their Indian Empire.

now after Partition now it's in Far North of India.

New Delhi is just under 500kms from Lahore and under 700kms from Islamabad and few more 100 kms from Chinese border.Considering these two hostile neighbours with a congenital hatred for India, having a capital at a striking distance from land and air is hazardous in case of external armed threat.

It sits right under the indian plate which is earth quake prone zone as it is classified under seismic zone 4. So any time any major earthquake causing heavy destruction to life and property can arise in Delhi.This might even cause collapse of the government if we are utterly unfortunate.

also, Delhi is least accessible for people in North East and extreme South. So i believe the new capital can be somewhere chosen in North eastern Maharashtra or Southern Madhya Pradesh. by this we can also avoid cultural clash between NEWS Regions.

MP is a Hindu Dominated and Hindi Speaking State so it will be easy for People who migrate to new Capital to Assimilate in this Region as Hindi is lingua franca of India (like it or hate it but large majority of Indians can Understand and Speak Hindi).

we have many planned state capitals in India like Chandigarh, Gandhinagar, new Delhi, New Raipur, New Delhi and now Amravati so building new city is cake walk for us.

Capital city is just nominal, for administrative purpose India we have regional hubs serving as local defacto capitals based on the requirement. Take for example railways use sectors like southern,northern,eastern....etc for administrative purpose.

But other than distance, delhi has certainly outlived its utility as capital city. India needs to start working on building a completely modern city where only govt resides. By the way look at beijing, it is at one end of the country.

Delhi is millennia old and has a sense of history. A new capital would be shiny for a while but nothing can replace the patina that comes with age.

What we do need in delhi is better planning and more care of historical sites and old structures and neighborhoods.

Totally agree. Brasilia is a good example of that. Most Brazilians hate it, mock it for having no real history or culture, and even the politicians don't like living there.

The reasons given for the change are trivial & inconsequential. Only a Mohamed Bin Tuglaq would take such decisions.
