Oct 8, 2015- Nepal-Bangladesh bilateral trade has been halted for the past two weeks due to the undeclared Indian trade embargo on Nepal.
According to Nepal Transit Warehouse Company, about 200 trucks carrying various imported goods have been stuck at Banlabanda on the India-Bangladesh border. “Bangladeshi exporters are reluctant to dispatch goods to Nepal,” said Yadav Raj Shiwakoti, chief of the company at Kakarvitta, Jhapa. “They fear of a possible obstruction by the Indian customs office at Phulbari.”
Goods including cotton, industrial raw materials, fabric, juice, jam and batteries have been stuck at Banlabanda. “The Bangladeshi traders fear their trucks might be stuck at bordering areas,” Dilip Timilsina, a Nepali trader involved in Bangladesh trade, said.
Due to halting in Nepal-Bangladesh trade, the Mechi Customs Office has been losing Rs1.1 million in revenues every day, according to the custom’s chief Bhim Prasad Adhikari. This means the customs office has lost revenue of more than Rs15 million in the last two weeks.
Due to continued obstruction at the customs point, Dabur Nepal, an Indian multination company, failed to deliver its products like “Chyawanprash” to Bangladesh on Wednesday. Exports of pulses and vegetables to the neighbour has also stopped for the past month.
Bangladesh is the largest importer of Nepali “Musuro” pulse. The two countries have been trading goods through the Kakarbhitta-Phulbari-Banglabanda trade route. Based on international rules, India cannot block this route because a landlocked country should have the access to other markets through neighbouring country, a source at the Customs Office said.
Nepal exports goods such as pulse, medicinal herbs and vegetables to Bangladesh and imports cotton, medicines, battery, fabric, juice, potatoes, milk powder, biscuit, raw jute, tube light and mobile phones, among others from the neighbour. In the last fiscal year, Nepal exported goods worth Rs1.08 billion to Bangladesh, while imports amounted to Rs 2.73 billion.

Bangladesh and Nepal should sign deal to build overhead road to easily transfer goods with internet, gas-oil, electricity facilities linked. We can utilize BBIN motor vehicle agreement

So has there been a statement of not allowing our trucks go to Nepal or are they unwilling to make the move by themselves?

There is no statement. If there are any Bandh or Hartal on other side of border trades are naturally halted.

.
Nepali Madheshis are enforcing this blockade from their own side and India is not interfering with this (thus leaving Nepal to deal with this crisis alone).

So all road trade is of course affected....Indian trucks are just the majority....but Bangladesh, Bhutan and others of course will be as well (if Bhutan even exports anything physically to Nepal).

.
The fact that Nepal cannot enforce the law and control its own people with its own army and military forces is disheartening.

How can a bunch of illiterate political goons shut down an entire border? Where are the brave Gurkha troops from the Nepalese Army? Time for establishing and imposing martial law. These are matters of national security.

These Madheshi people are shooting themselves in their own collective feet. No development will come to these regions anymore.

On the International front - Nepalese should take the issue to the WTO and seek redress for damages from India for this conspiracy.

If Nepal Army was so competent then Kingdom would be still intact

Madhesis are majority in Nepal, so how can they share only minority role in administration.

What conspiracy in this ?
They are not able to break blockade imposed by Madhesis & blame India for conspiracy ?
They should first break the blockade of Madhesis then whine if we didn't supply essentials.

What is their exact % in Nepal population...do you know? I am just curious.

He is getting desperate yaar to see India get pegged down some how. Can you blame him given the way things are going in Bangladesh? About 1.5 billion USD in FDI for Bangladesh last year compared to 34 billion for India....sheesh!

FDI in Bangladesh drops 4.74 percent in one year -

Don't need to compare both as BD is small have different priority , my problem starts when someone's balls got bigger than their brain or their brain is smaller than their balls.

He brought WTO into the equation....like Nepal or even Bangladesh has some massive voice there.

Like complaints of a foreign conspiracy is going to hold water at the WTO for an internal Nepalese problem.

Such facepalm.

We are fighting against USA in WTO since decades now, add Nepal, BD in the list
What would they say in WTO, that India should compensate us as our people block supply route & India didn't use his own force to crush them

Dabur is an Indian company, and Chyawanprash is a Hindu Ayurvedic product, I wonder why Bangladeshis need this, or even bother about it.

They will say there has been a conspiracy!!!! When asked to show evidence of such conspiracy they will point to the Indian delegation and furrow their brows really hard!

People who are weak can only make conspiracy theory to justify their incompetence.

Its a Indian conspiracy to kill Bangladeshis in winter.

The Terai (plains) people like Madheshis, Tharu and other Janjatis are 51% of Nepal's population, and they are getting only 65 seats in a 165 seats Nepali parliament, Pahari (mountain) people are 49% of Nepal's population and they are getting 100 out of 165 seats, guaranteeing Paharis' rule over the Terai people in perpetuity under their new 'democratic' constitution. There has been a long history of discrimination against the Terai people in Nepal, they are considered and treated like 2nd class citizens in Nepal..and that's the root cause of this conflict.

Come on dude, you are one of the good ones. You clearly know that the blockade is covertly imposed by India not the madheshis. It won't take much effort to silent the protesters if they were really Nepal's own people.

BTW, I guess BBIN is about to have a slow death....
