Nawaz Sharif To Visit Lanka’s Most Sacred Buddhist Shrine

Given the source is Indian media, It may well be trying to shuffle a few feathers but interested to know what would the reactions be from the more hardcore Islamic segments in Pakistani society to this visit to a Buddhist shrine.. Will there be a backlash atleast in the media and from those few here on PDF ?
I know hardcore and fundamentalist elements in Pakistan and I assure you this won't even register on their radar. Its a non issue. No one will talk. End of story.

. . .
Well i was directly quoting a news item.. Neither was the thread heading altered nor the content.. So it's far from a trolling effort but a query on the reason for such an article to appear.. Again my intention is to get the reaction from those ideologically far right in these forums NOT the majority of posters with the more consensual view point.. Lets not kid ourselves i have had quite a number of exchanges with those that holds a view that this would be against the very fundamental tenants of Islam.. Again that may well be the view of a minority here but a strong view nontheless

There is no real reason to get defensive

What is your view @Gibbs ? do you think it "should" be retaliated or condemned by the muslims (right wing or not is later)?
Do you think it is right for a dignitary of an Islamic Republic to visit shrines of other belief systems?

I am asking with a clear intention to figure out what are your ideas on the news article. and please let me know succinctly as to why you hold such views.

. .
There is no reaction even from the Pakistani members here to suggest something like that. Also, The premier of Pakistan has celebrated with the minorities as well in the recent past without having any "backlash" from his citizenry. Looks like people here are egging for a backlash from Pakistanis.

They are getting more tolerant of minorities and more intolerant of the extremist view of Islam (which is an untrue version of Islam).

When Pakistanis sent aid and personnel to Nepal during the calamity, no one asked "Nepal is a Hindu state" (or once was.)

Seems more like a troll thread to highlight that a Muslim is going to visit a Buddhist shrine where in the real world, its a human going to visit a sanctified place of other human.

we should refrain from replying to stupid posts

I don't have any version of islam. One serious question according to quran Allah is supreme so Muslims are not allowed to worship anyone other than Allah. Right?
OK lets see what trap you're laying :rolleyes1:; the answer to your question is yes.

Ofcause my view is this is most welcome and it's not the first time that the leaders of both nations paid respect to other religious monuments, And i'm sure vast majority of Pakistanis hold the same view, That is one reason that a great Buddhist civilization like the Gandhara and Taxila are preserved by the Pakistani people some times against odds, Unlike those in Afghanistan or the near East

But the crux of the matter is not that but what political or religious fundamentalist mileage would those in the extreme may or may not derive from such news, My intention is thus, To get a view on such a possibility

So as far as most Pakistani posters have clearly indicated this will not be much of an issue contrary to what the article might try convey, So i'm not sure why the reason for such a defensive posture by you, Is it somehow sacrileges to question a narrative that might not be to your thinking ? To call it a attempt at trolling ?

Btw i'm the least bothered about anybodies belief system as long as they dont interfere with others or the lack of it in my case

that one line proves time and again that such an act (of respecting other peoples values and belief systems) is not an act of contempt in Islam.

I believe - (this is my opinion) - It is another matter when it comes to Hindu shrines being in complete neglect. It has got more to do with enmity with India than a hatred for Hinduism. If Pakistan and India do find it in them to become friends, the enmity against hinduism will also die a natural death

why would that be an issue. Yes an extremist minority does exist in Pakistan but you have to remember that they have repeatedly failed to garner any significant votes in the elections held in Pakistan thus far. Yes they are loud and that makes them look disproportionately more numerous than they actually are but the vast majority of Pakistanis will have no issue with their PM visiting the religious sites of a friendly nation like Sri Lanka.

I personally believe that Buddha might be a Prophet.. His teachings are beautiful... And according to Islam God sent 125K Prophets during different eras to different people... Only a few are named like Mohammad,Jesus,Moses,David,Abraham,Solomon etc...So it's quiet possible.

As for Pak.. Actually secularism is spreading in Pak.. People specially the youth is standing up against vile ideologies of Ibn tamiya (radical Arab preacher and founder of wahabism).. Pak is turning towards Sufism which is originally part of our culture... And the fringe radical minority is getting ravaged !

Isn't it anti islam to visit kafirs worship places?

Quiet the opposite .. Islam actually tells us to learn about other religions, respect the faith of others... And also there is no compulsion of religion in Islam..

Have you seen me insult any religion ? Those who insult other religions themselves are considered worthless in Islam.

Brother ... Decades of conflict in our region (AF-Pak) have created a radical minority ... But despite that never has Pk elected even Islamic parties like JUI etc in power..

I don't have any version of islam. One serious question according to quran Allah is supreme so Muslims are not allowed to worship anyone other than Allah. Right?

Yes Muslims don't worship idols.. Do hindus worship the Abrahamic God?

But we can all exist as humans and show respect to eachothers faith?

Gandhara & Taxila are part of our heritage .. And it's our responsibility to protect them..

As for temples.. No not really... Historic temples are being looked for .. But the problem is corruption and fuktardry in govt institutions .. There are many ancient forts, palaces, mosques decaying due to the lack of attention ...

Another factor is an insignificant Hindu population on those areas.. Unlike Sindh .. KPK , Punjab etc historically had very small Hindu populations -- most of them left for India in 47... While ancient temples like Katas Raj etc have been declared UNESCO sites .. Many (relatively new) temples went neglected -- because there was no Hindu population and govt departments of a developing country aren't always efficient to say the least.

That's exactly what this thread is with the opening question.

True Muslims should kill Kafirs? Lol another delusional Bharti. Read the ENTIRE Quran son and stop searching up Islam hating websites. If this were the case, there wouldn't be any non-Muslims left in the ME. Furthermore, the Quran commands Muslims to protect Churches and Synagogues. Why would we want to protect them if all non-Muslims are supposed to die? There's a reason why jizya was created. How come Tamim Al-Dari who was formerly a Christian in Medina willfully converted to Islam? According to your logic he should have been killed before he had the chance to embrace it.
