LAHORE: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is not too happy at his reception in India during his visit there to attend the oath-taking ceremony of Narendra Modi, say his party colleagues.

A senior PML-N member told Dawn on Thursday that Islamabad felt belittled when there was no joint press conference after the one-on-one meeting between the two prime ministers. Short of that Prime Minister Sharif's delegation was expecting a joint communiqué, but none was issued.

Instead New Delhi unilaterally released a press statement which did not carry Islamabad's stance. It had only a passing reference to Mr Sharif and didn't appropriately acknowledge the importance of his presence, the PML-N member said.

The abrupt and inadequate release by New Delhi, he claimed, forced Mr Sharif to hold a press conference of his own - where he read out a carefully-worded statement so that "whatever was achieved by the visit might not go waste".

The PML-N member said the government was now pinning hopes on secretary-level talks - agreed upon by Pakistan and India during Mr Sharif's visit -- for some breakthrough in improving relations with India.

Sawad to aya hoga isko. Why the **** did he even visit when Foreign office told him not to do so. Isi liye baray kegtay hein kay koe bi kaam karna say pehaly 100 dafa soach liya karo.
Talks during MODIs tenure are impossible due to his narrow minded local dehati mindset. People seem to forget that RSS is a part of their government coalition. He won his elections based on his Anti pakistan and muslim mindset.

if the news is true, then it was stupid of him to expect a special treatment at a multilateral event

RSS is not a part of the govt coalition. Its not even a political party. And I will take a dehati mindset of Modi anyday over a terrorist mind set of a Pakistani leader. (See how generalizations skew things)

I dono what was there to be upset or feel disappointed....
This invitation was for a function, and he was one of the invitees. And there are several other invitees who were also head of states. There was no joint statement with any of the guests.... I think we cannot ignore the fact that Modi was Prime Minister for few hours only and there was no official interaction with any of the departments. What ever knowledge he had was as a Prime ministerial candidate.

It is simple, When you go to a house as a guest the interactions and care would be good. You cannot expect the same when you go to the same house for a marriage function.....

It was naive of NS to expect a joint press conference when the occasion was Modi's oath taking ceremony

@Developereo is correct, what exactly did he think will happen? Joint press conference, joint communique? On what? Why is it that so many Pakistanis(in the press) behave as if this was a surrender ceremony & that the new GoI would just give them whatever they asked?

NS 2was adviced not to visit india both by foreign office and army ... but as they say ish banday ko izzat raas nhie ati .. he should have listened to them .. stay in PM office and eat paya's

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is "not too happy" with the way India handled his visit to New Delhi to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi as Prime Minister, a media report claimed on Friday quoting an unnamed leader of the ruling PML(N) party.

A senior PML(N) member told Dawn News that Sharif felt belittled when there was no joint press conference after the one-on-one meeting between the two prime ministers.

Short of that, Prime Minister Sharif's delegation was expecting a joint communique, but none was issued and instead New Delhi unilaterally released a press statement which did not carry Islamabad's stance, the report said.

"Sharif is not too happy at his reception in India during his visit there to attend the oath-taking ceremony of Narendra Modi," the report said citing his party colleague.

India's statement had only a passing reference to Sharif and did not appropriately acknowledge the importance of his presence, the PML(N) member reportedly said.

The "abrupt and inadequate" press release by New Delhi, he claimed, forced Sharif to hold a press conference of his own — where he read out a carefully-worded statement so that "whatever was achieved by the visit might not go waste".

The PML(N) member said the Pakistan government was now pinning its hopes on secretary-level talks — agreed upon by Pakistan and India during Sharif's visit — for some breakthrough in improving relations with India.

After the 26/11 Pakistani delegation's visit to Mumbai this should not surprise and really matter to the majority of Indians.

And atleast we Indians are straight on the face unlike what Pakistani govt did to us in 99...In January they gave a warm welcome to A.B. Vajpayee and in May they gave us Kargil.

yes, some one told me that there was No joint statement!! Big Deal it is.
