LAHORE - Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief and prime minister-in waiting Nawaz Sharif on Friday expressed serious concern and deep regret over the recent drone attack, carried out by the United States (US) on Pakistan’s territory.
The drone attack was not only a violation of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, but also an action that has been declared a violation of international law and the United Nations (UN) Charter, he said.
Sharif’s sentiments were conveyed to the US Charge d’ Affairs Ambassador Richard Hoagland by a close aide of the PML-N chief, who stressed in his conversation with the US diplomat that the drone attack, coming within days of President Obama’s “crossroads” speech was highly regrettable, particularly as the president had spoken of initiating a new policy that would ensure greater exercise of care and caution in the use of this technology.
Sharif’s aide also pointed out that meaningful consultations and close cooperation between the two countries should be the desired course of action, as opposed to unilateral measures.
