SLAMABAD - Pakistan Armed forces supported by civil law enforcement agencies on Monday continued their relief efforts in the coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan that have been wrecked by the cyclone Phet.
Pakistan Navy has deployed a number of its vessels to augment relief efforts under the operation Madad ordered by the Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Noman Bashir. Two PN Alouette have been stationed at PNS Ahsan and Makran to augment relief efforts, in addition to a Fokker sortie conducted as part of the relief operation at Gwadar.
Furthermore, PNS Khaibar has been put into operation as a bridge at Ormara to cater to the relief needs for Gwadar as result of damage caused to the Coastal Highway. In addition, three Rescue/Relief Camps earlier established at Keti Bandar, Shah Bandar and Jati sectors have been shifted to Baghan and Jangu Jlbani to render all kinds of assistance including food, drinking water and medical help to the displaced people.
Pakistan Navy Hovercraft, Military Assault Boats and Helicopters are being used to evacuate stranded people on small islands off Keti Bandar and elsewhere in the Creeks.
Admiral Noman Bashir has given special instructions to field Commands to render all out support to the displaced people on emergency basis. Further relief activities are being undertaken in this regard on priority basis. Meanwhile, Pakistan Army has despatched relief goods and food items for the affectees through a special C-130 aircraft of PAF and two helicopters to Gwadar and Pasni today. Relief goods and food items including 400 blankets, 413 pillows, 500 tents, 400 Jackets, food items weighing 15,200 kg bags (including dry milk powder, tea, sugar, salt and dates) were despatched to Gwadar and Pasni.
Relief items will be distributed at the Relief Camps established by the Army in the area. It is worth mentioning that more C-130 Flights carrying relief items (worth Rs10 million) will be despatched in next two to three days for the affectees at Gwadar and Pasni.
