Navy On Highest Alert After Schoolchildren Spot Men Carrying Arms In Uran Near Mumbai

MUMBAI: The Navy is on the highest level of alert after two schoolchildren in Uran near Mumbai reported that they had seen men dressed in black carrying arms this morning.

The children reportedly told their school that they had spotted five men carrying guns, their faces covered, near an ammunition dump of the Navy in Uran. The school informed the police.

The Navy, sources say, is treating the information very seriously.

The police, Maharashtra's anti-terror squad or ATS and the navy are all involved in a massive search operation.

Uran is about 50 km from Mumbai. It is close to important locations like the Jawaharlal Nehru Port and the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre.

India has been on guard since the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Uri on Sunday, in which 18 soldiers were killed.

Indian Navy has been put on high alert in Mumbai after police was informed by a school principal of some suspicious looking men carrying arms near the Uran naval base, a media report said today.

Police said that two school children claimed that they saw a group of 5-6 men dressed in black carrying arms near the navy base. The student of UES school in Uran first informed the principal following which the police was alerted, reported The Indian Express.

The students said that they they saw five suspected persons in black uniform wholly covered and carrying long weapon and heavy sac bag.

The police has confirmed combing a part of the Uran area of Navi Mumbai to verify suspicious looking men seen by the students.

"State 1 alert was ordered primarily for two reasons; first, there is an ammunition depot near the spot where the children sighted the suspicious looking men, second, INS Abhimanyu too is close to the spot," said the report.

Really? With faces covered?

MARCOs just don't walk around with combat equipment randomly and 'near the base'. They do within the base.

Usually if the Navy is doing something, everyone knows around the area.

The kids did a great job and must be appreciated for alerting the authorities.

Also, our military doesn't wear black commonly. MARCOs do but they aren't usually strutting around an Army base just like that. Otherwise, the authorities won't have acted if this wasn't out of normal.
