Navy gets submarine tugboat, large patrol craft

Bangladesh Navy has incorporated a large patrol craft (Banouza Nishan) and a submarine handling tugboat (Banouza Passur) in its fleet through a grand launching ceremony at Khulna Shipyard.

Navy chief Admiral Mohammad Nizamuddin Ahmed was present as the chief guest during the programme on Wednesday.

Banouza Nishan, built in Khulna Shipyard, is a warship equipped with all the modern military technologies including combat management system, surface targeting, torpedo launcher and sonar surveillance radar.

With the length of 64.20 metres and nine metres in width, the warship can have a maximum speed of 25 nautical miles per hour.

The state-of-the-art warship is no less than any modern warships in the world, officials said.

The submarine handling tugboat is designed by Canada’s Robert Allan limited and manufactured with the technical support of Malaysian Grade One Marine Shipyard.

Nizamuddin said that Khulna Shipyard was becoming a profitable organisation over the course of time.

“The government is planning to build another modern shipyard near Payra Port to continue the development of ship-building industry,” the navy chief added.

The warship would play a vital role in sea patrolling, resource exploitation and proper sea management.

Bagerhat 3 lawmaker Talukder Abdul Khaleque, Khulna 2 MP Md Mizanur Rahman and Rear Admiral M Shafiul Azam were present among others during the ceremony.

In fact this could possibly be the most modern ship for them in this displacement class.

Kolkata class is overkill for our patrol use. I don't believe we need to patrol beyond our sea limits and we have no intention at this time to become a blue water navy.....3000 ton displacement flagship would be actually better.

A couple of Incheon classes is what we have our eyes on, to build locally. Small, but well-equipped enough to defensible.

it's a narrow idea of thinking to expand your navy and strengthening it....
navies, air forces are never armed to do a certain thing like patrol... with strengthening in mind the size increases and strengthening is not a definitive value

If it isnt RMG, no country in the world is interested in buying anything thats been touched by BD hands.

Made/assembled in Bangladesh only carries weight if its made of cloth.

So enjoy your persistent trade deficit with us. More Bajaj/TATA/Mahindra exports coming your way (while you make long winded posts about how India should help train your IT sector and other non-existent blah blah blah).

We will do nothing to correct it and will only push to amplify it as required.

Try even partially matching your Walton projections/predictions first to gain some basic credibility in non-RMG sectors say 5 - 10 years from now (because the present is already looking way too bleak).

@Nilgiri despite the irritating jackass, this is a VERY VERY impressive development. I suspect most of their fleet will be comprised of this and maybe somewhat bigger ships? So technically they can now build almost their entire requirements at home. Not many countries can boast that.

Its of course too bad that BD posters here have to drag India right from the get go (and get their ego's popped easily). This complex is a real obstacle they have to internally address in their national psyche to become a confident mature country.

Narayangang Shipyard which is making small patrol boats, Khulna Shipyard is making upto Corvette sided ships
and Recently active Chittagong dry dock is on the process to make Frigate sized ships
